What is an 'overtaking' mirror? You only need a drivers mirror.

an overtaking mirror is a drivers side mirror... the one you use to check behind you before you overtake

Should a lack of mirrors be an MOT fail? My L reg 1850 has no exterior mirrors, and appears to never have had and goes through ok every year. I must admit that I don't really miss them either, having driven dollys with wing mirrors and door mirrors over the last 22 years being tall I never found them to be in the right place to see behind very well. The interior mirror gives a good rear view and I always glance behind before moving anyway.
Cheers
Ian

Cars prior to 1 August 1978 must have one mirror. Cars after that must have two:

So you'll be fine :)

The computerized MoT should take care of these sort of problems. It tells you what is needed as the car will be on the database (unless it has been off the road for decades). I've only got an internal mirror on my 1850 and it hasn't caused any problems with the MoT and as Ian has already said, it is best to look over your shoulder anyway.

The Journey home went fine, I have a couple of issues though, the speedo died at Stansted which I'm assuming in the cable?

I think the alternator may be on its way out as when I got home the indicators were barely flashing and lights were a little dim

Also when going along between 10-20 mph the rear of the car feels like it bouncing, ive just replaced the rear shocks so its not them, any other ideas ? when you speed up it goes away

any help or ideas is appreciated

mike
