Just though I would share some photo's of my sprint restoration, hoping to get the welding sorted to get the car back on the road for the summer.

Hopefully the pics don't come out too large have checked the size and they should be ok....

Cheers

Proximity of downpipe to clutch cross haft will cause trouble eventually. The weld on the link to the slave fatigues and splits.
I have a had a lot of these fail on my own and customers cars. Its majorly unpleasant to fix....

If it does fail I'd think about the internal bellows type slave cylinder conversion.

If you can arrange the downpipe to be further out it will help. Is it an OE one? Shouldn't be that close.....

Failing that some heat wrap may do the trick.

Nice pics but presume you have the before and after in the wrong order.....:-)

Hi Jon

Thanks for the tip off I'll have a look at that. It was on the car when I bought it so suspect it is an aftermarket one.

I'll try an move the downpipe further away to avoid the failure.

Yes my first time uploading pics and managed to get them in the wrong order!!! :)

Thank you for your help

Cheers

Nigel

Jon has raised an interesting and relevant point about the proximity of the exhaust but I suspect that it is the angle at which you have taken the photograph that makes the exhaust look deceptively close to the clutch actuating arm. Here is a photo of the same arrangement in my car.

The exhaust is in the correct position for it picks up the clamp for the exhaust pipe support which comes off the side of the gearbox and which is not visible in your photograph. If this bracket is in place then the downpipe should be in the correct position.

An interesting series of photos. There is nothing like a picture to tell a story.

Perfect pictures...!!!

This looks really good indeed, I can only assume the Sprint will last another lifetime once you've finished with it!

Keep up the good work and please do keep us posted...

Is that an original Sprint bracket Robert?

Its so long since I've seen one I have forgotten what they look like...

Can we have some more made....

Or for a bit more effort and cost (but a bigger customer base) can a bracket be designed to fit the 1850 as well? Dunno if ohv models have them.

I think the difference in distance between the sprint box and downpipe and the 1850 setup would preclude the same part doing both jobs.

The Sprint bracket in the phots picks up on different parts of the o/d adaptor too.

Damned annoying fitting these on an 1850 as oil tips down your arm whatever you do...one of those places a stud would help...
