the reason for me saying fuel pump is wrong,is that the fuel filter is never more then half way full, even quarter full, when running on tick over, you can see fuel going in but drips, even after tank cleaned out, fuel pipe blown thro, checked all pipe connections and replaced few jubilee clips
this is way i suspect fuel pump,,,or is there something else ive not thought of?

I've been down that route with my 1850, the fuel filter seemed almost empty. Never gets to half full. On my car it's fine.
It wasn't the fuel in my case, it was the electronic ignition failing.

On my black Toledo you can hardly ever see fuel in the filter at all - but it drives fine! Did you rod out the pipe which is actually inside the tank? If it turns out you do need one, i'm pretty sure I have a pump spacer.

Just another thought.
Is your carb venting properly?

If the overflow hole on the float chamber was blocked I wonder if its possible to get some sort of back pressure
to the pump?

Another thing to try is to see how much pressure it does generate. It should go to about 2 psi against the shut float valve, meaning you will get a detectable pressurising of the fuel line to the carb if all is well.

If you work the pump by hand you should also get a pretty big squirt of fuel. You should fill a float chamber in half a dozen strokes or so.

If that isnt the case look for a down stream pin hole in one of the rubber joiners, which means your pump is partially sucking air.

the car has been really good recently  noticed the heat coming from the interior heater was poor poor poor,so took off the water pump, housing, thermostat housing and block water pipes
water pump is ok and working quick, clean with hand wire brush
housing needed a deep clean and de-crud,rustly bits chipping off from the old water/anti freeze build up,clean up with drill wire brush, spotless now,all water way have been clean with old drill bit used as poker
block pipe was total blocked no water coming thru at all,so again deep clean, good poke with stick  well old electrode, all clear, quick clean with hand wire brush
interior matrix connect to hose pipe and turn on to clean in reverse cycle, ran clear after rusty crap came out,not leaking either
made up the three gasket up from thick gasket paper+wellseal, left to dry tacky,re-assemble everything and add just water and burp-burp-burp the car
now running up to temp and it go`s right over to hot hot hot,,,so i need new temp sender unit, think it was cleaned to far and gone into shock and broke down under stress of working again :woohoo:

well thats it so far
