Been a long time since I gave an update

been busy with wedding planning and house issues but getting there slowly.

About two years ago I bought a ‘99 s Type jag for the engine and hopefully this weekend I’ll have the engine out of it. Got some straps and a engine hoist so that I can get it out.

The Dolomite has been put back together so at some point I can move it out of where it’s currently stored now. Won’t start as the starter motor broke while trying to fire it up so that’ll have to wait.

I’ve got a plan now, and it’s going a head slowly. Sourced a suitable axle in the shape of a Land Rover defender axle that’s been shortened, but that’s to come in the next 3 years. This is going to be modified using an Ashcroft ATB LSD, 3.5:1 crown wheel and pinion, that’s been pegged.

I’m slowly designing parts to make and use on the car, such as itb plate to use the existing jag lower intake and use Rover K series throttle bodies, and also modified plates to adjust the front camber.

Wheels, I have settled on using a pair of 15x8 4x100 John Brown Wheels pepperpot with a 4x3 3/4 to 4x100 adaptor ring, which will give he front wheels a 20mm poke over the Sprint alloys, and Tuff Torque 15x8 5x165.1 on the rear.

Brakes are going to be covered by Jag S Type twin pot sliding calipers and Golf G60 280mm disks on the front, possibility using the S Type rear brakes on the back, and a remote mounted servo to push the engine as far back as I can.

Also, using as much of the jag as possible, by taking the radiator, power steering cooler, fan, propshaft, and anything else I need

Well, engine is removed from diner Jag, complete with gearbox. Been sat a while but turns freely and smoothly. Just need to make the car to support the engine

Right, since my engine is still in the Triumph, I can’t really do much accurate measurements, so as per this quick little ask:

Got the measurement of the skinniest part of the engine bay, 55.5cm, which is a bigger as the current engine mounts for the jag are 55.0cm apart

Bugger, now I oils make all new mounts out of plate and spend hours making them

Or I could cut and drill the existing mounts for 15 mins of graft, so I did the latter

So this is the result, cut about 6cm out of the drivers side and drilled one of the holes in the support to 10mm for the engine mounts

Long Overdue Update

Been busy with housing issues and family commitments so haven’t really been working on the car, think maybe worked 30/40 hours in the past 10 months. Got the transmission cover removed and engine prepped for removal, just need a full day to get it pulled out.

Done a lot of planning and designing up engine mounts as I couldn’t modify the passenger side mount as it incorporates the oil filter and cooler, looking into filter relocation kit and to build a mound off the fromt of the engine to the existing cross member.

Having issues with cheap alternative axles to use but best bet at the moment is Ford Atlas or Capri rear end but don’t have the space to store one currently. Main issue I’m coming accross is space management as my garage is quite small and it’s very full of stuff like kayaks and pushbikes. One that’s sorted, more progress should come

Current plans are for a Group 2 style build but with some modern twists such as Radiomobile 1090/80 radio for period correct look but utilising my currently sorn BMWs heator matrix and re use the triumph one for a rear windscreen de mister as the stock one just drained my battery without doing anything. So if anyone wants rear windscreen with de mister stuck to it, PM me

Got the old engine and subframe out, with extreme difficulty, took all the suspension of just for ease of moving the subframe around.

After trying to put the engine on the frame, it looks like I’ll have to cut the front of the frame off as the sump on the Jag engine sticks out in front of the engine and puts it right in the front crossmember.

I could use a an X Type sump and oil pick up as it is a shorter pan but doesn’t have a cut out for the steering rack. I’ll see how the roll bar will interact with the sump but looks like it’ll clear

I’ll post pictures later
