After storing my Dolly Sprint in various garages/lockups for the last 21 years I recently cleared my lockup of all the spares and put them in my good looking mate's spare garage.

I will document the progress over the coming months and appreciate any advice/help......cheeRS Davy!!

Hi everyone, [img][/img]

Cant believe its been two years to the day since I joined the forum. Just to set the record straight; that first introduction about my "good looking friend" WAS actually written by him and not me! I have to admit to being a technophobe when it comes to computers etc and it was my friend Malcolm who first registered me on the forum. RS Escorts and old Capris are HiS thing.
Anyway been on reading what you guys are up to and decided its time I wanted to get involved. As mentioned I have been slowly getting on with putting my Flamenco Sprint, YGD 342S back together after too many years of neglect. Short version; I've spent much of the last 20yrs or so restoring and repairing other peoples classics (Malcolm you know I'm talking about you!) and always with the promise that my Sprint would be the next project in the garage. And of course these promises were always broken and the garage space taken up with another car. 2012 I had enough and spat the proverbial dummy like the grown up I am and sulked in my garage with my sprint. Bought an old genny and began getting stuck in. I have in the last 6 months moved from my lockup to a workshop/garage near to Glasgow airport ( Bishopton ) where I have been making progress.
Recently had all suspension components shot blasted and powdercoated and two wks ago received box of bushes in the post from Robber Bros ( that makes me smile)! Alun recently sent me a headlamp panel too. Incidentally last week I found a 1974 1850 in pretty solid condition in a nearby breakers yard. I managed to take some of the brightwork and will go back for more. I will ask if its for sale to save it from the crusher but if anyone needs parts from it ley me know and I'll see what I can do.

David

Welcome to the forum.

Just be careful what you say about that particular supplier. They have registered and posted on here. Although I haven't seen any posts from them in recent months, they could still be monitoring this forum.

Good to see that you're getting stuck in. Please save that 1850 if you can. Is it an auto? If so then I can add it to my list. Please get some photos up as soon as you can. I know you're a so-called "technophobe" but at the end of the day, computers are just tools (incredibly complex ones) so you just need to know how to use them. I think you should get the engine running first, get the car drivable then the rest will follow. I'm fortunate in that my own 1850 was still a runner and in drivable condition (the last MoT only ran out in September 2013). I have all the parts catalogues in PDF format so let me know if you need one.

Thanks for the warning. I read someone else using it and found it amusing.
As for my car, I rebuilt the engine back in the early 90's( last tax disc expired May '91) and ran it for about 1500miles before I decided to investigate a patch on the n/s cill close to front jacking point and of course ended up opening the whole thing up and the rest as they say is history!
Obviously the engine will require some attention before going back in but I still turn it over by hand to make sure it hasnt seized. It'slying in the corner of my lockup next to the short block from a magenta '74 sprint I dismantled years ago. A friend wanted me to convert his TR7 to sprint spec then gave up and I got the ramains of a very rusty car. The mechanics were good tho. I'm sure I still have the full dash and clocks for that one with about 48k on the odometer.
The 1850 is a manual overdrive but I dont know about its condition. I will see what I can find out. Going off duty at 10am and not back at work again til Thurs but I will try and go back to the breakers to see if a deal can be struck.. As for photos I do have some on my phone but there is a problem with the sd cardand I cant access my gallery or use the camera. sURE i havesome older pictures on my girlfriends laptop at home. I will take photos of the 1850 on a digi camera too.
I have amassed a collection of spare parts over the years from doors, bonnets bootlids and running gear so if anyone is needing anything I would be pleased to help.My phone number can be found in the Good neighbours scheme in DM.
Cheers.

Hi Davy,

If the 1850 in the breakers can't be saved, I would gladly drive through and take some bits off it. Any chance of a photo of it?

Hi, I am after some help if possible, looking on aa route planner I see Greenock is not far from Dumbarton, am I correct?. The reason I ask is that I own an 1850 reg ERS982T, I have been tracing its history and a bloke called David Lemmen use to own this car about three years ago. David is the proprietor of Remich garage in Dumbarton and had this car as his own car. I have managed to locate the owner prior to this who owned the car for a number of years and he claims when he sold the car to David there was a lot of paperwork which went with it. When David however sold it on the paperwork seemed to disappear. I have rung David several times and sent letters to him stressing how important it is for me to get hold of the paperwork and any info about the car but although he states he will look I never hear from him again. David also mentions he has a load of bushes for the car and although I have sent him details of my address and will gladly pay all p&p charges he has never sent anything.
Do you think it would be possible the next time you pass that way you could pop into the garage and ask David about the car. I would gladly pass on a few beer tokens to you and David. Thanks in advance

Hi guys
Firstly Bill im planning to take another visit to the breakers this week, possibly wednesday so i'll take photos and ask about buying it back. St
Dumbarton is just across the river Clyde from Greenock, 25minutes drive from my home. I was stationed at Dumbatton fire station some years ago. By strange coincidence i'm sure i know the David you are referring to. Im sure its the same guy who is partner in a garage not 200 yards from where i am just now. I will vidit this garage tomorrow and see if its the same David. Otherwise its no hassle to drive over to dumbarton on.your behalf.

David

David, yes it is a T reg and is carmine red so it looks like the same one, it now bears sprint badges and wheels and I believe it was David from this garage that put them on. If you could pop in that would be great but please do not make a special trip for me just as and when you are passing that way. Basically when I purchased the car (from the person who bought it from David Lemmen) there was no paperwork at all so anything would be a plus
many thanks Dave

I spoke with David Lemmen today and it IS the same guy and the same car. David said the paperwork was in the boot when the car was sold. He was involved in a bad crash while on his way to pick up the buyer from the airport and subsequently was not present when it was sold. But he assured me the paperwork was with the car. Not sure if this helps?

Thanks very much for asking, I think I will have to concede in the fact the paperwork has gone as no one is taking responsibility for getting rid of the paperwork, a shame but there you go, thanks again though for asking, Dave

I'm sorry I couldnt pass on good news. I will no doubt pop in to see big David from time to time and when I do i will continue to ask. He can be quite a stubborn individual I'm afraid. He claims he doesnt know where the bushes are either!
Bought a new mobile phone earlier this week so hope to get some photos of my Sprint up and also photos of the 1850 in the breakers I spoke of earlier. Was going back to take photos and ask to buy it yesterday but it turned into such a miserable day here that the thought of ankle deep in muck and oil didnt appeal!

Fitted new bushes to upper wishbones but was struggling a bit with the hard trailing arm bushes so i gave them into the saab garage next door a week and a half ago and still waiting...While cleaning underside I noticed a very small hole in the end of drivers chassis leg. After a thorough going over with wire wheel/grinder I made several more holes to keep it company. But its an easy repair so I'm glad I found it now and not later, but it made me have a really good scrutinisation of the rest of the underside, always thought it to be solid and apart from this one area I'm glad to say it is!
Up at the sprint to weld up chassis repair at weekend only to discover NO ELECTRICITY! Bummer. Someone hasnt paid their leccy bill! So instead I removed the rear axle while waiting for the trailing arms to be done. Just going to give it a good clean/ repaint and renew oil and diff gasket. i took some photos on the new phone but dont know how to upload them yet?
