Cup washers on the subframe mounting lugs?
That is a good idea, I think I'll do that too.

Already have them for the ST tie bars at the front.

Sorry for the lack of updates. The car has been progressing slowly due to a busy summer of racing, but now winter has started fast progress will be made. I will start writing a progress report now and get some up to date photos :D

The shell:

So this has had quite a bit of work including putting the suspension pickups back in their original positions, repairing some old accident damage and fitting a full custom weld in cage. It was then seam welded, dipped and repainted in its original Mimosa Yellow.

Engine:

This has just arrived back from Rob at Sprintspeed, making a healthy 211bhp and 173ft/lb torque, although this would be slightly higher bhp if we went a size up on the carbs. The subframe has been powder coated an once the other engine mounts have returned from coating the engine can be finally fitted up. It has already been in and out of the car quite a few times up to this point to make sure everything is fitting in the engine bay as we want.

We will likely have to re-engineer the throttle mechanism to clear the bonnet but that will be done at a later date.

In the engine bay we have already started to lay out the plumbing and the extinguisher system is all complete. A new bias adjustable pedal box has also been fitted with Wilwood cylinders. The wiring loom is going to need a lot of modification so that is one of the next things on the list to get sorted. A lot of other parts have been completed in the meantime, front hubs and lots of other brackets and suspension components have been either zinc plated or powder coated, and the rear axle has been rebuilt with a new LSD and is almost ready to get bolted to the car.

It will be a nice car when finished but it lost it's soul. It could be any track Dolomite now and nothing reminds on the original heritage and history.

Hi Dave,

Yes the calipers and discs were supplied by Ken Clarke and have spacers to allow for the vented discs. The axle casing does have a drain plug already fitted I believe but I haven't looked at it for quite a while to be honest.

Hi Jeroen,

I would have to politely disagree with this statement, as we are actually restoring the car to be as close to its original specification as possible when it was first built and raced, although with a few additions such as the modern brake cylinders to allow it to be safe and competitive enough to race in current FIA Group 1 races.

The cars history was that it was raced by the Butch Tailors team through the first few years of its life including the Spa 24 Hour races in 1974 and 1975, and then after that seems to be handed around and raced by other various small teams in club motorsport up until the 90's and gained much of the bodged paintwork and other 'additions' during this time.

We are undoing all of the substandard work over the last 40 years to bring it back to its original Group 1 Touring Car specification.

Wobbs,

I totally agree with what you are doing to this Sprint. Any history had really been obliterated by the more recent alterations to the car.

Your car, so you do what you like with it!

For what it’s worth, it looks like your doing the right thing to me! And your doing it fantastically well too.

Thanks for sharing the progress here. More please….
