Has anybody done a rear brake disc conversion on a dolomite sprint, any info or advice would be grateful. Looking to do it on my sprint and change the wheel PCD to a ford fitment, other than change the axle completely looking for cheaper alternatives.

Sensible and positive replies only please.

Bob Kett is running rear discs, Ken Clark is your man.

I haven't got my DM to hand at the moment, who was selling the Ford 4-stud front hubs? I'd like a pair of those, then I can get some rear hubs made up to suit.

This could open up a more easy route to a rear brake conversion as well, utilising Ford discs & Wilwood Combination calipers which have hydraulic actuation yet mechanical locking for handbrake duties, allowing the use of the existing rear brake lines and cabling.

I have ford hubs on the front of mine and need to do the rears. I will probably fitt a ford atlas axle, as its easier to get a second hand lsd for one. Although I may yet change my mind.

Neil, what kind of bits did you need to complete the conversion? Besides stub axles, hubs, bearings, studs, were there any other bits? What do you use for braking?

Apologies for the 101 questions

I didnt actually do the conversion myself but I have rebuilt them and the look similar to those in DM. I belive they are modified ford stub axles, ford bearings a spacer to suit the disk, granada vented disks and a ford hub, and princess 4 pots with spacers

unfortunatly I dont seem to have any pics of them in bits or after rebuild

Nice too see a positive response, Firstly thanks neil for the pictography on the front hub conversion, I have found many places selling alloy hubs in ford fitment the cheapest seems to be comp brake in preston. Secondly I need to find out who, how, where, when, how much do we buy these ford/triumph stub axles from in the club. Thirdy do I use a mis match of triumph/ford wheel bearings to make it work. Forth are the club stub axles machined to fit the 1300/1600 escort or the rs2000/capri, ideally it needs to be the latter.
As you did some name dropping there mart who is bob kett and ken clark, show yourselves and share you knowledge to us dolomite fiends, im on the blocks and waiting to put this in to practise.
Time is money and the clock is ticking.

Also where is darren, he should be the god of answers in this subject.

Ken Clarke Motorsport, Hinkley, Leicester. Tel: 014SS 6I66I7

Ken's been racing Sprints fer donkeys, probably knows more about them than anyone.

Not sure if his conversion will be cheap, but I don't see the point of putting rear discs on a road car, or is it that you want more interchangeability of wheels etc.?

Thanks for that Mart, i will be calling the guru of dolomite racing. The answer to your question is the interchangability of wheels and what a choice, and to bring the car up to a more reliable modern set up for road/track use.

Is that rear disc bigger than a standard dolly one?

Dave not sure what you mean, as the dolomite does nt have rear discs, but it is 273mm, I will be running 7j 15inch wheels.
