Those are the part nos. I've been quoted. But the front springs are 3.25"ID on a standard Dolly.

My AVO's are proper motorsport types and use 10" long 2.25" springs and have proper adaptors to locate the top of the spring. I don't think they are a specific Dolomite unit but were sourced via AVO from the p/o for his post historic race car. They are getting on a bit now but may well be a higher spec than the Dolomite units listed on AVO's website.

Measure the closed and open length of a damper and ask for stem top mount rather than a bushed/bearing top mount. Dont waste you time with standard spec uprated dampers!

Should be something out of this range that will do the job....

Go for the double adjustment alloy units if your feeling a bit more flush

OK, Mark from Jigsaw phoned me this morning & after querying a few things I've order my AVOs. 10" front springs & 9" rears. They're 2.25" ID springs & there's no need to weld a tube on to the top mount. They also come with the spacers for the bottom end.

Whilst I was at it I ordered a cam shaft. :D

That info is opposite to what Jigsaw told me.

Definetely need to locate the spring on the front mount if it is 2.25 ID (did you get my photos?) unless AVO are providing a locating platform with the springs. They will move all over the place if they are not located. Fronts do not need spacers, rears probably do but I got away without using them. Fronts have a huge adjustment range on the shock, rears less so. Also front shock bush is too small in length and you may have to shim it to stop it moving about. Rears need some 5mm taking of the bush insert for them to fit.

good luck with them, maybe they are different to what i was supplied with

just checked my jigsaw invoice.

Fronts are 12 inch 250 lb
Rears are 9 inch 150 lb

Perhaps why you need spacers for the front?

Yes I got your photos Ian, thanks. I obviously meant a thank you to all for your replies.

As I said, I spoke with Mark this morning & he assures me they are like I said. Smifter has them on his Sprint & didn't have to weld any rings on (see his post above). Anyway, I'll report back when I get them & take some pics.

My Avos have arrived from Jigsaw. :D Looks like they now supply a top mount for the 2¼" ID springs. Are you supposed to get an adjusting spanner with them?

The Spax' are still sitting in the rear footwell of the Mazda :oops:

This weekend will be lots of work on the Dolly as the future wife's off on her hen do! :jump4joy:

Those AVO's look a bit fancy......

@ Mart: did you have to pack/shim the lower shock bush as Ian described? And what was your initial adj. spring height setting? With what effect? I’m about to fit mine’s next week, so any info appreciated!

Colin, good to meet you too. Could've stayed chatting all day. I expect I will be finished with the AVOs in about 10 years time. :D

Ronald, on the fronts I did pack out the lower bush with 1/8" (approx.) flat washers either side. The rears were a straight fit. My initial spring height setting is just a quessimate of 1" & for damping I've given it 5 clicks initially from fully closed (anti-clockwise). Until the engine is back in and the car is on the road again I have no idea if these settings are any good (probably not).

you may want to turn the front shock 180 deg as its easeyer to adjust without removing the wheels
I have had these on a long time and they havnt packed up unlike the Spax rubbish !!!

OK, silly question, presumably (I haven't tried yet) if I adjust the spring seat upwards the ride height will be higher & if I go downwards the ride height becomes lower? Just wondered as the front is still too high & there is only about an inch to go down. I expect the suspension needs to settle a bit more though tbh.

Adjust the seat to be closer to the word AVO in your photo to make the car lower.
