I took the gearbox tunnel out of my sprint recently and couldn't help but notice how heavy it is. Has anyone come across or made a light weight version. I'm on a bit of a weight saving kick ready for next seasons autocross. (For me as well as the car)

Regards
Mark

Someone mentioned on here recently about the possibility of having them made in GRP.

I'm not one to talk about weight anymore, but about 4 years back some numpty was writing a book about tuning the triumph straight 6. He mentioned that he'd had maybe an inch machined off the back of his block with a weight saving of 1.5 stone for a light trackday triumph!
This chap must've been 20 stone plus! Surely easier to lose a few stone than several hundreds of pounds (sterling) including a modified clutch.

This is what it is all about. Every gramme you loose on a car is faster lap times. Alloy wheels, alloy calipers, every bracket that's on your car of alloy, carbon seats, carbon panels, leight weight heater etc. Sure not a numpty.

As Colin Chapman famously said (and I agree with him) :-
"The secret of success is to add lightness!"

A few years ago the Top Gear team were given the unlikely task of making some obscure Renault (Avantime?) go faster round the test track. Despite spending a couple of thousand pounds on goodies, the only thing that made a significant difference to their lap times was ripping out and binning all the interior bits!

They used to say that the English added weight until the car stopped breaking and the Italians would shave off weight till the car won.

Rebecca gets round Brands club in under a minute in a 1000 kilo Porsche 924 with a mere (proven) 130 bhp.
The car has been stripped for racing and the weight added as plates on the floor to lower centre of gravity and meet weight rules.

Mr Chapman seemed to be of the opinion that if the car blew up and disintegrated as it crossed the finish line then he'd got it right! If it survived the victory lap as well then there was still some shaving to be done!
