A bit of advice please.

I am rebuilding the front suspension on my car & having problems with the tie bars.

They are uprated, comparing them to some 1850 ones I have they are slightly shorter & heavier duty.

The problem I am having is when I fit them with standard polybushes they do not clamp up tightly, you can see the spigot end is longer so I am guessing I need to fit larger bushes, does anyone know if they exist & where I can get them from?

The uprated tie bar is on the left, 1850on the right.

Thanks

Tony

That is a 2000/2500 type.

Great thanks for that, so if I get the bushes for the 2000 that should do it.

Is there any advantage fitting this tie bar, it is slightly shorter, will this cause a problem?

It looks a lot stronger.

Thanks Tony

A known weakness of T2000 tie bars is failure of the mounting brackets. It is common practise to reinforce these (by welding on heavy duty washers).

Nothing but benefits. It's stronger, the bigger bushes are a big improvement. They are a bit shorter but that will change the castor in a positive way. The car will be more stable and goes straight on more. I know this because i have these also on my dolomite. You only have to readjust the track again.

Got the 2000 tie bar poly bushes today, they are conical, does the flat part of the bush fit against the subframe on either side or just the inside one?

Cheers

Tony

Tony, on a 2000 the bushes go flat side to flat side, so I would try that first.
Do you have to enlarge the hole in the subframe for the spigot end to fit through?

Hi Ian,

Thanks for that information, I thought the inside bush went that way round as the dished washer on the end fitted very well over the conical end of the bush, but was unsure about the outer.

These tie bars were already fitted to the car I am restoring so I am not sure if the holes in the subframe have been enlarged, but I do have a standard 1850 subframe knocking around so I will check tomorrow to see if they fit & let you know.

Cheers

Tony

Just checked the tie bar in the standard subframe & it fits without any need to enlarge the hole.

Are these the bushes suitable for the T2000 tie bars...?

Thanks,

Ian.

I got mine from Robsport via Ebay-

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/230935913263? ... _588wt_924

If you want Superflex I would go to Chris Witor, the code for a set of 4 is SF373-0084-70-4K

Are you fitting the T2000 tie bar to your car then?

Cheers

Tony

Thanks for that information Tony.

:D I may well fit T2000 tie bars but was actually considering this topic for inclusion in the Forum column in Dolly Mixture.

Thanks,
Ian.
