After the garage replaced the union on the petrol tank I now have this exposed pipe. I don't remember it being exposed before, looked in the parts book and cannot see anything listed. Can't remember what covered it. Anyone please?

It's usually mostly covered by the putty they used to block up the hole with.

I usually use Dum Dum, but as you can't get that any more, I don't know. I'm nearly out of Dum Dum so will be interested to know what others use.

There is usually an expanded polythene shroud over the pipe too, a bit like domestic pipe insulation but smaller diameter and white...

The only thing I could find around the house and it worked well was BLU TACK.

Windscreen fitters use a black putty to "bed" some modern screens to the body. A fitter gave me a golf ball sized lump of it..a jolly decent chap! I used it four years ago on that same joint..and it's still pliable.

In my 73 1850 there is a piece of circular foam, looks like the lagging that plumbers use on copper pipe, in the parts manual it is part number 628416. It is cut at an angle on the side where it fits the body work in the tank well.

Yes, that foam fits around the pipe between the tank and the hole on the inside of the boot. The putty stuff is on the underside.

Yes that had partially dissolved as it had been soaked in so much fuel.

Blu Tack is such a 1970s thing it really has to go on my car....

If you put dum dum seal in a search on ebay there is someone selling it on a roll should be pliable enough to fill the hole.

The link below is from a smartphone so may need editing or searching the item number itself on a pc or laptop
