Planning on putting a set I already have of MGF 6 spoke wheels on my 1500, the studs are 3/8 so can anyone recommend what wheel nuts I will need? Cheers Rich.. |

Look on ebay Revolution wheels,they sell wheel nuts 7/16 and 3/8 but not sure if there fit the MGF wheel Dave |

Think you need the 60 degree taper nuts, similar to classic Mini alloy wheel nuts. You could offer one of KAC'S nuts up to check for the taper, but I'm running m12 studs |

pretty sure they are flat bottomed holes like sprint alloys, but with a larger hole for the sleeve nut, so fatter sleeve nuts needed I believe. Where Carledo when you need him lol Tony |

To fit with 3/8 studs is a bodge. I did it, but in retrospect it wasn't a good idea, and soon swapped to m12 nuts. The seats are taper 60degree. Initially I used some tapered wheel washers,then 60degree bulge nuts. The nuts on there own barely touched the wheel stud hole edges, hence used taper washers.. For the cost/effort, fit a set of freelander studs. Then use MGF/Ford etc nuts. Job done properly then. |

Ah ok I stand corrected on the taper thing. Yes using M12 studs would be better really, just whether the studs come out in situ on the rear (sprints dont) Tony |

Hi, I fitted them with MGF wheel studs and nuts. I bought a full set of new off ebay. Except having to take off the rear axle hubs, they work a treat. Regards barry

Tony Jeez, one night away and it all goes nuts! I actually can't help much here as I converted to late Sprint hubs and rear axle with 7/16 studs. Nuts for those are freely available and relatively cheap (£24 for 16) listed for MkI Escort on Ebay. MGF wheels are indeed 60degree taper fit and have an unusually large hole so you need a nut with a wide flange or washer for 3/8 studs. Not unobtainable, but a little scarcer. Or convert to 12mm as suggested, stronger is better! Steve |

If you don't want to change studs, go to a mini specialist, who do these in 3/8. Make sure you have enough engagement if the nut on the stud. |

That is what I did, but found there was about 1mm actually contacting around the edge of the nuts. And to use a car like that is errr.....nuts. Make sure you have enough engagement if the nut on the stud. http://www.grayston.biz/wheelnutmenu.htm and look at wheel washers I used the "escort conversion washer" with the 3/8 bulge nuts. But by the time you have done that, it is almost as cheap to buy new m12 studs and proper nuts. On spitfires it is possible to fit the bigger studs without taking the hub off. But you do need to drill the brake backplate, and fit a grommet after. I can't see why that wouldn't work on a dolly. |

Why not just use MGF studs and nuts for MGF wheel, its less than £100 for a full set, and made for the wheel? The fit the holes in the hub with no mods. |

Ok thanks for the suggestions, I am going to go down the route of MGF studs and nuts I think, as I know a good MGF breaker nearby who I have used for wifes MGF in the past. But first I suppose I should get the wheels out from where they are stored and trial fit one side with some 3/8 wheel nuts I have just to see if I like them on my car!! Cheers Rich.. |

I have similar plans for my 1974 Triumph Toledo 1300 "HL"; ideally using 185/65 R15 tyres, but my main concern is clearance inside the rear wheel arches, with 6 x 15 inch wheels having a 28 mm wheel-offset!?! |
