Freezer will make the hole smaller so you dont want that. Better to heat the cover to about 120C and get a socket or press tool that sits inside the seal and gently tap it in. Bit of grease around the seal too. Ive never had to heat the cover but I have press tools to do the job. Tony |

I leave the seal in oil overnight before fitting. (I do this for crankshaft spigot bushes too.) Ian. |

What i used to do was to use the old seal upside down, so effectively pushing two seals in. That way you dont damage the new seal. If the old seal grips when its gone in, just flick it out.... No damage to the new one. It looks as though the socket you used was a tad oversized? Tony. |

Wise words all, thanks for that. I need to be a bit more patient for sure. And perhaps that socket was too big. I was trying to push the seal in using the outer lip, but now I see it would be better for the socket to sit inside the seal driving the face of it. I’ll try some heat and a little grease or oil too. Why I thought the freezer was a good idea I don’t know!? Thanks again. |

You were right to use the outer lip. If you use a socket inside you will ruin the seal. |
