It was an exciting (!) day. This is what my 1850 screen looked like after a stone hit it on the M11.
It is that quick, it happens between frames of video. ~ 33mS.
Full marks to Adrian Flux and their windscreen company. They can get me a replacement in 3 days !
I've never had that happen before so it was an experience. On my Dad's old 1100 he had 2 screens go pop in 3 weeks back in the 1970s.

Tempered glass might be stronger than sheet and laminate but when it goes, you certainly know about it! Laminate windscreens are one of those things that go unnoticed but are great inventions.

Getting one in three days is amazing. My laminated screen was cracked last summer and I got onto the insurer who directed me to National Windscreens. After some research they said they couldn't find one at a reasonable price so got Pilkingtons to make me one. It took six weeks to come and was fitted at my home by two very talented guys in about half an hour. It is a perfect fit, doesn't leak and has the correct tint for my 1977 car. As it happened the delay didn't bother me as the car was having some other work done anyway, and it still only cost the £70 excess.

I wonder if National Windscreens would have bought one from the club? When they rang and told me that their regular suppliers hadn't got one, I put them on to Triumph specialists including Rimmers. Rimmers did have one but National Windscreens said they were too expensive. I was surprised that commissioning Pilkingtons to make one was cheaper, but that's what they said. The main issue for me was to get it through the insurance and not have to pay full price.

I understand Rimmers get theirs from Pilks, so I imagine they have no more, or likely less 'clout', than National Windscreens.

Just a follow up to this thread. National Windscreens came and fitted my shiny new screen today. They opted to use the old sealing rubber as it was in good nick. They've done a nice job of fitting the new one. The new screen is tinted and laminated and has the "Triplex" logo on. It is a very light tint though. It didn't look like Mr Rimmer's packaging , so there may be other manufacturers out there other than their supplier. They even cleaned out the windscreen vents and re-attached the mirror.
Job done.

If it has the Triplex logo on it, it came from Pilks as they are the only folk who can use it. Does it say 'Sundym'? Again, a trade mark that only Pilks can use, if it doesn't, it isn't!.

My 1974 Triumph Toledo 1300 (first registered mid-November 1974 to Mann & Egerton, the local Triumph & Rover dealership), was already equipped with a Triplex laminated windscreen, when my father bought the car as an ex-demonstrator cum runabout in May 1975.

I shall be interested to learn iff and when, electrically-heated, laminated windscreens become available; ideally with a tinted upper shade band. 8)

For the moment, I shall have to make do with my existing Solaglas non-heated, laminated windscreen with blue-tinted upper shade band, which replaced the broken Triplex laminated windscreen in the mid-1980s.

Highly unlikely is the answer. A minimum order is required for each style so storage capabilities and perceived demand mean an order was only placed for tinted laminated. Add to that, the experience of elements failing in heated 'screens suggests warranty claims that we'd rather avoid.

That being the case, I shall need to find a way to avoid ice forming on the inside of the windscreen less than ½ mile after starting up from cold on a cold, frosty day, owing to my breath freezing on the inside of the cold windscreen!

About 5 minutes is about the maximum I can manage after hyperventilating and avoiding physical activity; which would not be long enough for the engine's coolant to heat up sufficiently to provide adequate demisting & defrosting!
