Post subject:  MOT today - good news!

Regular contributors here might remember that I was given my 1850HL free after it had lain for 26 years in my brother-in-laws garage in Aberdeen. It looked pretty shabby, but after a clean I was amazed how good the body was. I had to repair the front ends of both sills, but that was it. I then renewed all the brakes, fitted new dampers, and rebuilt the engine with new rings, shells, chain and pump. I got it running at the end of last summer.

Although it is over 40 years old and eligible for MOT exemption, my good lady wanted it tested in case something wasn't right, so today was the day. I'm happy to say it passed with flying colours, no advisories at all. The tester was thoroughly charmed with the car and told me how much he liked it. He said the emissions were nice and low for a car with carbs, particularly the unburnt hydrocarbon reading. That pleased me as I have rebuilt and tuned the SUs myself at home.

I now feel entirely confident that TPC and I will get to the Silverstone Classic with no bother in July - a 360 mile journey from home. Looking forward to it.

I've been driving the Carledo for 8 years now and it never fails to bring a silly grin to my face when I fire it up, even if i'm only driving to work!

The day that STOPS happening, will probably be the day I start thinking about moving it on, but at the moment I don't think it's very likely!
