Can anybody post pics of where and how the bonnet buffers (P.N. 619551) fix. I can see roughly where they go on pics on the Net, but there're no holes or owt thereabouts on my car.
I've laid a pair in the gutters, and I like what they do - well not the bit where they stick to the underside of the bonnet and fly off when I open it, but the way they stabilize it when its closed.

On GTS290N's pictures, they seem to be a lot further from the wing than I'd expecting and the other way around. But I see where to drill the hole.

Fixing looks like a black japanned No6 or No8 flange head with a 1/2" od washer. Is that right? 'Spect I could use a black stick in the hot glue gun.

Anybody know if there's a real advantage to the poly ones?

The ones on the blue car are incorrect, the screw is in the right place but they should be as in Len's pic. as for poly ones I can't see any benefit other than they would be stiffer which you don't want on a bonnet buffer.

Yeah, if I try and fit them like the blue car, the bonnet won't shut. I'd have to cut them down maybe 1/2" or so.

iirc it was only the early models that had these?

I guessed they were only on some models. I don't think my 1973 Sprint had them fitted anyway.

However, having tried them just laid in the gutters, I very much like what they do in making the bonnet fit snug in the hole. So, as the only downside I can see is a couple (more) additional holes in the shell, I think I shall fit them.

My 1973 Sprint has them the same place as Len's. I just thought they were standard throughout the range and years if not then i have learnt something new.

My 1979 1300 and the 1981 1500HL has them fitted and they also show in the parts book for 1976 onward (published 1977) cars as part number 619551.

AFAIK, all Dolomites had them from new, but they a) rot away and fall out, b) get removed for wing replacement and not replaced.

This second cause also accounts for variation in position as the original mounting hole is often obscured by the new wing, so people guess and hope, or, more often than not, just leave them out!

On cars where they have been deleted for whatever reason, I can't say i've noticed any increase in rattles or paint chipping from bad fit, more than you'd get anyway, bad fit is bad fit! It's easily adjustable!

I'm not sure that's right Steve, although I hesitate to question your knowledge. But I have known my 1850 since my brother-in-law bought it when it was 3 years old, and it has never had any bodywork repaired or replaced until I welded up the front of the sills last year. Definitely no bonnet buffers and no sign they were ever there.

Question away mate! I'm always willing to learn and always finding something new! My own 78 Sprint and the 77 1850 shell i've got here both show signs of having them fitted at some point (ie the holes are present in the flitches) As does the all original 75 Sprint I have in the yard. Interestingly though, between these 3 cars, there was only a single buffer actually fitted!
