It's not, not flipping the switch in 3rd that's the problem as much as remembering to flip back before leaving 4th. But I guess the jump from OD4 to 3 would be nearly as annoying as OD3 to 2nd. Though perhaps not nearly so much as OD2 to 1st. That must be a bit of a shock.

The 16v Slant 4 engine is more fun than the 3.5 V8, because you mostly drive it on the upslope of the torque curve.

I see where Robsport sell a small wiring loom for Stags gearbox and overdrive.

I really like it on 3rd. On an incline I like to hold 3rd then o/d it and if I start slowing just flick out and Im good to keep pulling. Its a bit odd when you forget its in o/d and shift from the 3rd to 4th and you get the slight delay though .

The plastic multi pin connector is different to my car, but is easily modified.

It doesn’t appear to include the bit that goes up the stick to the switch; the terminals there have to be very small in order to fit within the knob...

I had to resort to the large warning light - 18W amber on the right side of the dash. The red was 18W oil pressure warning. Worked but I'm sure a smaller version would be fine in a road car.

Those terminals on the overdrive switch are small - i used 2.8mm spade terminals + some 1mm cable to renew mine.

I don't get that, it seems to stay in OD on the change.

I specifically checked this recently on the Herald, and that spitfire IV box (I think - reverse is up and left) stays in OD while in neutral, as long as the stick is over to the right hand side - I can hear the solonid operating with OD selected and moving the gear stick left-right in neutral. That used to have OD in all gears, including reverse. But it's better now.

I have yet to do that test with the Doly cos the mechanic who fitted the speedo cable disabled the OD - I assume he broke a wire. I intend to take the tunnel up and look at that asap.

Its like the inhibitor switch momentarily disconnects then re-connects when the selector moves to 4th on mine.
