Just bought myself a new Sprint Project, more on that later. It came with a free Triumph Spitfire.

In the boot the Owner told me was a 'Big Valve Head', see picture:

I know nothing about the OHV engines, is this something special?

Offers invited.

Thanks

Tony

Looks like the chambers have been radiussed, valve size is difficult to say.

What are the ports, and valve springs like please Tony?

I have dumped the car at my Father in Laws so the head is not to hand, I will pick it up tomorrow & take some more photos with some measurements.

What do you need to see, the size of the ports?

Tony,
Yes please, plus if there cast finish, might be worth measuring the head thickness from face to rocker area, try and work out if it's been skimmed

Here's some more photos, the head measures 72mm. It is provisionally sold but any info would be gratefully received.

Hi Tony.

I am sorry it has taken me so long to provide the attached photo which is of a standard 1500 head that I have.

I took some more photographs today of another 1500 head that I removed.

I took the head off the car because when I came to adjust the tappets for the first time I noticed that the collar on one of the valves was black. On investigation the valve guide had worn and was letting exhaust gas vent up the guide and this had heated the collar. All the rest of the guides were fine. The rocker oil feed seemed to be ok so I could not explain what had caused the failure.

Thanks Richard.

As I said I don't really know much about these engines.

Tony
