I have been stripping my sprint head. Seems I need a few valve guides and then it came to the cam. I have another marginally better used cam, so tried that. A rattling fit!
Consulted hau=ynes manual, which gives teh journal diameter as 1.23-1.235". Check the "new" cam, and indeed it the journals measure 1.23-1.237". I then measure the cam that came out of the head and 1.270-1.277, so 40 thou oversized. Stamped stanpart, and fits the head journals nicely.

So what is going on? My only explanation is that at some point recon heads were supplied with oversized journals and matching cam?? Or any other explanation??

Must say, this engine seems to be fighting every inch of the way! Flippin glad I hadn't forked out for an aftermarket camshaft....
