Evening All,

Also posted in parts as I'm looking for a few bits as part of a restoration project I have started to keep me occupied during Lockdown 2.0.

I'm in the process of recommissioning my 1500 which has been sitting for a couple of years since it started running poorly.

It's too good a car to not get back on the road where it should be.

Still on the list is body work and paint - any recomendations on this would be very welcome - as affordable as possible please!

Also if anyone knows of a good garage to take a look at the uneven running - I'm changing everything my limited mechanical know how will allow right now but it would be worth while for someone with expirience to take a look/ get the engine set up propoerly so I don't do any more damage and get her back where she should be.

The previous owner had fitted a side exit cherry bomb exhaust which seems to be giving me performance (and noise!) issues so looking to get a new standard system to replace this with.

The exhaust manifold also has some large cracks in it so looking to replace this too. There's plenty to do on this project so I'm trying to be as economic as possible if anyone has or knows of a reasonable used parts availabale until the budget can stretch to stainless.

Any help at all would be enormously appreciated!

Thanks in advance

Hello Artisam.

Small world - I'm only in Witney!

I've got a 1500HL and have also organised the local regular catch ups with other Oxfordshire area Dolomite owners for many years now - hopefully when C19 permits we will all be able to catch up again! It will be great to have you along - we are a friendly varied bunch!

I will drop you a PM with my contact number etc. At the moment it will be tricky, but in a few weeks (hopefully) I would be happy to pop round to have a look. I'm no real expert, and I haven't got a huge stash of spares, but more than willing to offer advice and support!

I do have a very good contact for welding if you need anything. Paintwork I entrust to a chap in Witney, but I wouldn't say is the cheapest - the quality is super though.
I will ponder on the mechanicals - I haven't required the services of a garage locally for the Dolly, but will ask around. They are generally quite easy to sort out though and with the aid of this forum many questions can be answered.

Best Wishes
Matt

Hi,

Thank you for you're reply. It would be great to meet other owners and get involved with furure events once normality returns.

I've been doing a bit more work on the 1500 today. The next job is the exhuast as long as I can find the parts. The manifold looks similiar to Spitfire and 13/60 Herald from a google search - these seem slightly easier to source - not sure if anyone can confirm if these or any other exhuast parts are interchangeable?

the manifolds are different as you have a single carb so the manifolds wont sit on each other, also the outlet flange is at a differing angle than the spit or herald.

I'm assuming due to it having a single carb its a front wheel drive, in which case don't get it confused with the 1500TC or Dolomite as although they are very similar some parts like the manifolds and downpipes are different enough to cause fitment issues.

Hi Thanks for the info - yes FWD, which seems to be the main issue as the parts seem less common than others.

Below is the spit manifold I found and one for a 1300 FWD. They look extremely similiar bar the bits sticking out in the middle, spit has 3no and 1300 has 1no.

still looking for manifold and rear section from central silencer back. The other option I suppose is to have my manifold repaired - not sure if its possible/ worth it given it's current condition?

Thanks

The fitting issue will be in the flange angle and downpipe not going through the gap and hitting the subframe in my experience.

Okay thanks - the top picture (Spitfire manifolds) looks alot more like what I have installed than the bottom (1300 FWD).

I think the best option is to get it off and look for some kind of reference. The exhaust that is currently fitted is a very loud side exit so I guess there's no guarantee that the manifold currently on the car is even correct and will fit with the new standard exhaust system that I'm getting tomorrow.

Evening All, so I found the part ref which is 057 Stanpart - It has the three fixing points as the photo above which is the Spitfire manifold byt the only fixing being used to attach to the inlet manifold is the central one as bellow - this makes me wonder whether the current manifold on the car will be incorrect for a standard exhaust which I'm collecting tomorrow. More confused now as not sure if I should be replacing like for like or keep trying to find someone selling a manifold that states its for a 1500 FWD (if this is indeed different from the one I currently have installed) - they seem rare as rocking horse poo.

More confused than ever!

Also struggling with the nut holding the manifolds together as the corners are worn and cracks are much worse than I initially thoiught 8) .......will get there eventually.

Not sure I want to sell it, but I HAVE a 1500fwd exhaust manifold, still attached to a 1500FWD!

Can take some pics if you think that would help!
