If you are using fuel with Ethanol in I would highly recommend fitting ethanol proof fuel hose, just fitting “Suitable for unleaded” hose is not Ethanol proof!

Having read the post above I decided that I would see if I could find a specification for Ethanol safe petrol hoses on the internet. I did not find a spec but I did come across https://www.moss-europe.co.uk/ethanol-p ... gates.html which claims to be ethanol proof and is a lot cheaper than the previous suppliers.

Thanks for the info, looking at the prices my 20meter reel I bought over 7 years ago for £20 wont be ethanol proof!

I am planning on replacing all the hard full lines as well on my 1500TC, any advice what size / Material to use for the hard lines?

I would not touch the AFS stuff with a bargepole. I know of a few people where it has failed in under 12 months. So obviously fake. In fact, fake r9 hose is prevalent, only buy from a reputable seller (sadly AFS appears not to be one)
Moss, Burtons Rally Design etc all sell suitable stuff.

I have had issues with Ethanol fuel on my 1850 Auto, the R6 grade of pipe had started to break down, the small bits of rubber stick in the float needle valves, which on stombergs is a pain to remove and clean.

Everything after my fuel filter is no R9.

My 1300 and Sprint Auto are next on the list although they have SUs.

When replacing hard fuel lines, I use 8mm microbore central heating pipe in copper. I's nice and easy to bend with a cheap pipe bender, fits the factory clips etc and of course, doesn't rot like steel. It's also cheaper than buying the "orrect" stuff from the factors. No downside that i've been able to discover.

You must have the patience of a saint and the luck of the irish, one slip and you've wrecked the pipe! Bend it with a pipe bender to get those nice crisp corners the factory ones have and you daren't get it wrong, you can't undo a bend. The Dolomega pipe I reduced to 2 pieces (stock is 3) and altered the join spot to get a fuel filter in alongside the inner sill, that was VERY hard to get right.

I also used in cupronickel in my car, did it in 3 parts though,
I used an 8mm External pipe bender, this made the job so much easier, with no squashed corners,
Highly recommended.

Good to see a cheaper supplier of the hoses in Moss.

Hi Steve, when you made up the fuel pipe for me is this the size the pipe is....8mm O/D ish?

I ask as I'm wanting to order some rubber hose to connect it all up with and I'm not in the workshop to measure it!

What size I/D hose should I be ordering please?.....and clip I/D too please? :)

Yes Shaun this is what I made for you, so 8mm I/D hose is what you need.

Fuel pipe clips, you need 4 x 624155 (double clip with brake pipe for chassis leg) and 12 x 1509301 (single fuel pipe only) Fitchetts stock them, also Bresco and probably a dozen others. Bresco are often a bit cheaper but you have to convert their part numbers to OE which is very time consuming.

Whilst on the subject of fuel pipe clips, a word on fuel HOSE clips.

In my experience,a small worm drive hose clip ("Jubiliee" clip style) just doesn't cut it on fuel hose. It ends up as a sort of D shape instead of round! I don't recommend using the original spring clips either, as modern hose is almost always a little thicker than OE and the OE clips were made to suit a particular thickness of hose. Take my advice, go the extra mile and get the correct style of fuel pipe screw clips.

It's probably not quite so critical with carbs, but my EFi systems don't like worm drive clips one bit!

To add to Steve’s post…

Pipes are measured by outside diameter
and hoses by inside diameter (bore)
( so for example a 32mm hose will fit onto a 32mm pipe).

Regarding hose clips,
for high pressure fuel applications I use O-clips
because they clamp both securely and evenly all the way around.
(O-clips are one mandatory choice for gas hoses I understand
but I don’t if the same is true for liquid fuels)

The price of simple little plastic clips is scandalous! When I built up the Dolomega after it's respray, I used 100% new clips for everything, mouldings, badges, weatherstrips, brake and fuel pipes etc, which I bought all at once. The bill came to well over £200! And that didn't include dozens of assorted hose clips for coolant, fuel, fuel return, trans cooler, heater etc!
