Post subject:  Sprint Heater stub pipes

Evening All

Does anyone know how the 2 copper stub pipes that come out of the heater are held and sealed into place, are they braised? (the 2 sticking out in the image borrowed from Rimmers)

I ask as the one to the heater valve has come out through the bulkhead whilst replacing the hoses and I need to know if I need to take the heater out to get the pipes rebraised.

Cheers

They are normally soldered in place. The pipes come in one piece with the tap incorporated as part of the heater rad itself. You may well need to remove the box and separate the rad out from it to repair the damage properly.

I've known it to be tough to remove the heater hoses when they've been on a long time, but i've never bust a pipe off. Nowadays, if i'm changing the hoses, I undo the clip and slide it up the hose then slit the hose with a Stanley blade to get it to peel off easier and probably forestall this dilemma.

If you can't fix it or the pipe is broken rather than just pulled out, I can offer you a heater box with watertight rad and functional tap for sensible money. I even have 1 NOS one. (though that would be dearer)
