Iam back again .I have had to many reasons why my restoration hasn`t got off the ground since i bought my Montego Estate in 88 the last was looseing my rock my Mum whome i had looked after as a carer for 10y at the age of 96y five year ago was basical pyisicaly & mentaly fit had to go into hospital for tests and got phnemmonia and died 5 days later
The last 5y has been hard as i lost all motivation and no pupose in my life
However now i want to get on with my progect and i have someone who wants to help me
So the first thing i need to do is remove the front and rear screens then remove the panels on the body that will be replaced with the new stock ive been hording for decades lol
Iam thinking of soda blasting but someone has said that soda blasting dosent remove the rust? your idears /views are welcome or take the spl route ?

Engine wise its a low milage if i remember around 60,000 and i had it rebuilt after big end knock .
Should i get it converted to run on unleaded or leave it and use aditives.
Maybe overdrive fitted if possable ?

No, you have advised correctly, soda blasting will not remove rust, mostly used for aluminium.

Don't sand blast them either as I have been told that this can buckle the panels, walnut shells seems to be the best medium that I have heard of and also gives a better finish.

Depending on the thickness of rust, I use orthophosperic acid, very good at cleaning off rust, it is not very strong but makes your fingers tingle for a few days if you get it on them, it is also the basic ingredient in coke or Pepsi.

Good luck with the restoration, it took me about 7 years to finish my Sprint after my dad started it.

This is a very useful thread David regarding the overdrive conversion for 1500's. I converted my 1500HL many years ago, and parts were a little more plentiful then, however o/d boxes to come up from time to time. It is a worthwhile addition and does make the car a little more refined at higher speeds.

Thanks for the replys The overdrive converting will be later on the list . I need to get the shell done .Ive been advised to have the shell dipped without the doors /bonnet & boot as the chemicals can unstict the skins so selective glass or soda these itams seperatly
