Hello All, I am trying to source a steering rack for my 1972 Triumph 1500 Fwd saloon, have phoned and emailed numerous places, does anyone have one to sell, even if it needs reconditioned.

Also does anyone know the length of the 1500 front wheel drive saloon steering rack, with track rod ends removed.

Dolomites had either 3-1/4 turns (early models) or 3-3/4 turns later.
A 1500 had exactly the same rack as the early Dolomites except for the track rods,
however the track rods are interchangeable.....

Presumably then if you were not bothered about ratio any Dolomite rack would fit, as early and late racks are interchangeable. Either use your original track ends or cut the new ones down to the same length.

Yes and no; the FWD have the longer track rods, so you'd only cut them down if fitting a FWD rack to a RWD car.

If you send me your rack, I can get it assessed for reconditioning...

The fwd track rods have a rolled thread.
Alas said threaded portion is insufficiently long to allow for track rod shortening for Dolomite use.

T'would be a waste really, to cut down the rare long track rods to fit a RWD Dolomite, when stock track rods are plentiful, it's the rack bar itself that is causing the current rack shortage, our current reconditioner is a lot more picky than his predecessor!

Having had a hunt in the shed last night I have a pair of used 1500 fwd track rods if anyone is in need.

Hello,

I would like to buy your track rods for 1500 Fwd, I take it its the rod on the steering rack that looks like a drum stick.

Can you please let me know how much you want for them. I have sent my details in a pm.

Jim

Rack now refurbished and fitted to the car. Car now goes where its steered rather than where it wants too.

Thanks for all the advice and a special thanks to Matt for the track arms that allowed the refurb.

Cheers

Jim
