Amongst my Triumph things earmarked for eBay is a steering rack that, as far as I can tell, has 2.75 turns lock to lock. Does this sound right (ie a 'quick rack') or might I have made an error? I dimly recall something like this being fitted to a FWD, but am not certain.

I know the racks are interchange between models but don't want to mislead any buyers, so can anyone confirm that 2.75 was ever fitted on any of the models?

Thanks.

The 2.75 turn rack is OE on the Triumph 1300 FWD. Many of these have been already converted to fit Dolomite models, all you have to do is swap the track rods for shorter Dolomite ones and bob's your uncle, a Dolomite "quick rack". I have one myself, earmarked for the Carledo when I get a Round Tuit!

I'm not entirely certain that's correct. My understanding is that 3.25 was the FWD rack, also used on pre 74 Dolomite and Sprint but with Dolomite rack ends. Later Dolomites used 3.75. The one you have at 2.75 is I believe the Aftermarket quick rack option, using modified Escort pinions.

I concur.
To add to that, I am of the understanding that the 2.75 rack has a lot less steering lock

Thanks, both.

Just as a matter of interest, why would it have less lock? The gearing on the pinion?

The stops for the rack bar are closer together
