Bad contacts are a common problem with these combination switches, arising partly from the design and the oxidation of the crimped & rivited connections.
I suffered one MOT failure, because the dip switch failed during the MOT inspection, having been okay in the days, weeks & months leading up to the event!
Ideally, the crimped wires should have been lightly soldered where the bare-wire crimping was done, then strain-relieved and sealed using hot-melt glue & heat-shrink sleeving.
