I recently booked a slot with the Gaydon Archive reading room as a stop off for work trip up north and spent several hours looking at early production records for our cars, anyone who has tried to look at these can tell you how difficult and time consuming it is, so much so that i think i will need to try and re-visit to investigate a bit more and to double check my findings. However this is what i discovered, i thought i would look into the 1st 2000 mimosa sprint legend and as i stumbled my way through the records sure enough they were all mimosa with the last few of those all being factory fitted man/od btw, however i continued on expecting to see an immediate change in colour choice, but was rather surprised to find that mimosa continued to come up as the listed colour right up to VA2054 the last one. The next one VA2055 (Engine number 2141) was listed as Magenta as were the next 4 Sprints, before the next one being mimosa again. As my car is white i looked up to see if i could find the first white car listed, this appeared to be a LHD French Market car VA2066. Anyway be interested to see if anyone can collaborate these findings if correct then it would appear that the 1st 2000 being mimosa legend came from the actual correct number 0f 2054 being rounded down to 2000, am guessing all these in the later sequence may have ended up abroad or on a UK M reg. Anyone own any of these Chassis Numbers ? Incidentally i could find no records of automatic cars listed but i am pretty sure i know of at least 1 L reg Sprint (MUM 387L) that was an auto ? anyone know any more on this ?
I took some random picks of chassis numbers from this point upwards with Carmine and Sapphire being very prevalent dotted with more mimosas and magentas. Anyway more digging required me thinks.
