Ever since I've had Binny the 1850 there's an annoying rattle noise at tick-over. Much poking and prodding behind the dash revealed nothing. I noticed it's louder in the engine bay, I also noticed that with light pressure on the brake pedal it goes away/changes.

Anyway, last night it took the servo off (as it seemed to be the only thing left that it could be!) and it rattles and the push rod through the centre looks like it's the source of the noise... but everything is working fine. Good boost with the engine running and it holds vac well.

At the moment the only option as far as I can see is "live with it", but can anyone think of any other options that don't cost the earth?

If it is still off the car, replace it with a used one which doesn't rattle?

I have an 1850 one here which I took off a Sprint when I replaced it with the correct item. It doesn't rattle, but the previous owner painted it blue

I had what sounds like the same problem and it turned out to be the vacuum non return valve that is just a push fit into the servo. I suggest you purchase a new on and try that first as a lot of old ones rattle.

With VAT and postage on top it cost me a fortune, but everywhere else only had new BritPart ones (and I refuse to buy their parts). Yes I probably paid double - but worth it to me.

Interesting...we currently supply recon servos with a tested valve and new seal as the Britpart ones are of dubious quality and a poor fit and the reconditioner won't touch them. I'll let them know Blanchards have old stock...even if they aren't particularly cheap

Glad to hear the reconditioner has standards! The only time I use Sh1tpart is if there's no other option.

I do not know why the official Triumph parts catalogue shows a part number AEU1046 is used on the1300,1500 and 1500HL and that a Sprint uses a 18G8953.
Moss Europe stock a 18G8953 @ £13.60 but you need to also purchase a seal which may be a part BAU1019 @ £3.60 but you need to check that is the correct seal. Several years ago I purchased a replacement valve from Moss and I have not had any problem with it in one of my 1500HLs.
