Do you have to use a press to get valve guides out of a head? Would a hammer, a drift and a blow torch work?

I should leave it to a machine shop, they can fit a bronze inset inside of your existing cast valve guide, takes up the slack aswell as libricating.

 adam whens your next home visit ? come and see me and i'll send you over to my mate who's got an eng recon workshop
you can bang them out but it's advisable to remove them with care !! and you dont have the right tools any way i know you have loads of hammers (seen them on the photo's  ) but you also require the right sort of drifts and they have to be in alingnment with the seats you may have to do a quick recut on the seats after fitting the guides

I'm home from the 15th to the 19th of this month and I plan to do my head gasket and MOT my car in that time.

Are you going to be around for help in that time George? :D
