The Rover SD1 (for all it's faults) was popular with the police (West Yorkshire was the first force to have them). Some forces stockpiled the cars so they could contiune to use them after production ceased circa 1986.

Found this picture of Howard Bowles unmarked Police car I think taken at Gaydon some years ago. Howard still owns the car and I spoke to him at Star 90 a couple of years ago where I believe he re-joined the club.

It'd be great to see some more pictures of the above car and to learn more of its history...

Lots of Sprints :D

I have a copy of the following 160-page hardback book about police cars which I bought a few years ago, in the local public-library’s second-hand book sale, for a very modest sum (probably as little as £0•40):

Malcolm Bobbitt, “Police Cars”, Sutton Publishing Ltd., 2001, ISBN 0-7509-2510-8.

On Page 128 of Chapter 6 – Blue Lights and Sirens, there is a black & white photograph of a West Yorkshire Police, early-model Triumph Dolomite 1850 (registration number UNT 902L as illustrated above). The photograph’s caption reads:

« Only subtle styling differences distinguish this Triumph Dolomite from the more basic 1500 models. West Yorkshire had a number of Dolomites in its fleet, promising good performance from their slant-four 1•85-litre ohc engines. Over 100 mph and sports saloon handling could be expected. (Colin Chipperfield Collection) »

This one survived until the early 20x0s:
