Hi experts,

My Sprint has been manufactured in late 1977 and it's door mirror is in realy bad condition. I even can not say if it was chromed or black in better days. What was the standard for those mirrors in that period on a Sprint?

Cheers,
Holger

Pretty sure that they should be the chrome mirrors.

The black ones came in in 1979 (I believe).

"orange" has black mirrors, built in '78, reg'd in '79

does it depend on colour of car?

I always thought that mirrors were an option upto 1979!

They were originally only on the driver's side.

early cars have no mirrors. The came in with the hub cap change in 74/5?
My 79 V plate Vermillion sprint came to me with chrome mirror on drivers side and some badly filled mounting holes on the passenger side. My R reg tahiti came with chrome drivers side only. The flamenco s plate 1300 has chrome mirrors.
All my other late cars, white 1850, russet Sprint, Spits, inca dollies and green 1300 all came with black mirrors, but the BGT's all have chrome.

So I conclude it was whatever the dealer or factory had in stock at the time. I think chrome mirrors always look better. The black finish is crap and fades and peels off...but black does look better on a spit cos it goes with the black trim on the rear wings and boot edge. On a dolly I prefer chrome but black does go okay on a sprint with black stripes.

I think Jon Tilson's right.
I think it would depend on which mirrors were in the bucket at the side of the prodiction line. You were lucky if you got 2 of the same colour!!
