When I bought my Sprint the steering wheel was movable about an inch on the vertical axis. The steering rack itself and the steering column support is fix. As I am very new to the car and want to order the spare parts before disassembling everything my thought is that a missing support bush (part number CRC360) is the reason. Any experience if this could be the logical reason or should I further explore for more typical reasons?

I presume you have tightened the black handle to the rhs of the column?

If so the bush you describe may cause your symptom. If the car has been used for a while without the bush the hole in the support plate may have become elongated and may require replacement (4 bolts) too.

Bush available from Malc at Club spares.

have written Aluns reply word for word almost if he hadnt beatn me too it.

It couls also be the column top bearing...but thats quite rare and best do the 360 bush first....fit flat side towards the interior....although Ive seen cars with it either way round.
Tha last few bushes Ive done have been too stiff to push through the plate with it in place...so I removed it and used a vice and a socket in the time honoured way.
