I haven't updated this thread for absolutely AGES.
I took advantage of the free Windows 10 in 2015 and with a program called Start10, I have a Windows 7 style start menu. I ABSOLUTELY recommend the software if you don't like the new style start menu. You can find it
HERE Windows 8 users will need to get Start8. It is only $4.99 so it is worth paying for.
I filled up my 1TB hard drive so I looked for something a bit bigger. I was after an internal drive but I came across
THIS Seagate 5TB external hard drive in Argos which seemed good for the money.
Unfortunately, it died on me within 6 weeks so I took it back for a refund. Fortunately, I still had the data on my 1TB drive so I didn't lose anything vital. I ended up getting
THIS WD 4TB internal hard drive instead which should be suitable for my needs.
I finally upgraded my primary hard drive to
THIS Crucial MX300 525GB SSD. It took me several attempts to clone my old hard drive to the SSD but I got there in the end and it has made a noticeable difference. Windows starts up and shuts down a lot quicker and programs start up quicker too. SSDs also use less power which make them suitable for laptops. My partner got me an Alienware laptop for Christmas so it now has the same Cruicial MX300 SSD in it as the desktop. Cloning this one was easier. We've still got the previous laptop so that might get an SSD upgrade too.
I'm still considering fitting a Blu-ray writer but the general lack of availability of blank discs (Asda don't sell them) has put me off for now. I put an extra 4GB of RAM in which was surplus from when I upgraded my partner's desktop PC and it is running quite well.
