... and where can I get a socket to fit it please ?
It is about 44mm in overall diameter.
I tried Googling "circular nut" but this leads to angle grinder disc retainers.
Its a tail-gate lock on an MGBGT btw.
Thanks ,
Tony.

I always tighten them with a water pump pliers, or if there is no room for them, do it up finger tight and then tap round with a hammer and screwdriver.

I'm going to guess it's just called a lock nut. Take a file to a standard socket? Or as Steve said, hammer and screwdriver.

Thanks All for your advice. I was looking at making up something by cutting slots in a piece of pipe as I didn't want to risk punching the bodywork, and water pump pliers were too large to get in.
I did notice that the internal bits and pieces were held in by a circlip. It was quite easy to remove this and just swap the lock barrel. And I didn't need to fit the gasket kit.
Sorted !
