I often have a browse on ebay to see the various older cars that are coming up and have noticed a pattern recently.

A classic will appear which is listed as a barn find or been off the road for years. The description will be short or have lots of waffle about how this is an historic vehicle ect; with no info on whether the engine turns over and vague descriptions of the bodywork. The photo will be of a car which is covered in rust and is obviously not roadworthy. Most of these ads don't mention having to trailer the car away.

These seemed to have appeared as a result of the MOT exemption rules changing, with people selling poor condition cars now that they can go on the road without an MOT. Am I being a bit cynical about this or have others noticed this as well?

My own view is that opportunists are trying to justify an inflated price on the basis that the vehicle is MOT exempt. Regardless of condition, they seem to think the vehicle can be priced higher than a 'scrapper' as it is not subject to the MOT test.

Which in reality they can't justify, because the car still has to be road worthy. The police and insurance companies are not going to take too kindly to someone driving around in a car which has obviously shot structural areas such as sills.
