Looks lovely to me Murdo. Personally I like that interior colour - proper 70s retro. Although chestnut is my favourite too. My car has been Ziebarted also, horrible black sticky stuff that it is, but it’s meant that the car still has its original cills, wings, doors, etc etc. In fact it’s sitting on axle stands, on its jacking points as we speak - with no bother. It has had only one patch of welding on one inner arch in the past and the chassis leg I’ve just put on. So I say the black goo was a wise move back in the day. I can’t stand the look of it under the bonnet though so will strip it off.
How’s the re-spray coming on? Will you have the car back fior Christmas?
I got it back the Friday before Xmas Bish, very happy indeed with it. Now to get everything back on, getting bits powder coated and cleaning everything up is taking the time - I didn't do any of that while the car was away just didn't have time. I'll put the photos of it painted up, once I get the older photos up first and the story of its ownership from the first owner of 5 years to the chap that owned it for the next 33 years.
It's turned out much better than I could have hoped for, and found a few rare bits to put back on like rubbers, indicators etc, so very happy all in all.
Yes there's no doubt Ziebart did its job, horrible stuff like you say but certainly preserved them. I've taken it off the bonnet though and the little in the engine bay that's still there will be removed too. I'll be leaving all the Ziebart underneath and adding to wherever it's dried up too much, as the car will be used so protection will be important, keeping it on all the inner arches too (boot area, engine bay and floor wont have any of it).
