Did you make it to Lands End?
Tebay services are great, sometimes we drive up there just for some food and a nice run out in a Triumph up the A65.

Steve Wilkes and I did our own mini round England run yesterday; only 350 miles calling to see three, well four actually, members; one on the M40, and two further stops west of London, prior to going across to Wanstead to pick up a Sprint I’d agreed to buy pre lockdown. I have seldom seen so much traffic on the roads; the north circular was nose to tail stop/start almost all the way from Chiswick to Wanstead, and the M25/M40 were exceptionally busy on the way back, most of it during atrocious weather and driving conditions…and I thought fuel supply was supposed to be short! I hope the RBRR folk have fared better circumstances!

Here is the latest update from team 39....

This morning we had an incident on the road from Tongue to Lairg where we got forced off the road by a woman in an SUV who refused to move over at all as we met at speed at a spot between passing places. Both nearside wheels went clattering down a 5 inch drop off the edge of some freshly laid tarmac. We pulled over and couldn't see any damage.

Wind forward and shortly after leaving Tebay Services this evening there was a large thud as something metallic bounced off the underside of the car. The car continued to drive okay but we pulled into the next Services to take a look. As Andy applied the brakes there was a horrible noise from the front nearside wheel. Jacked the car up and took the wheel off and discovered that the brake caliper was half hanging off. The top bolt was missing and the bottom bolt was loose as was one of the other securing the bottom of the strut.

Had a rummage in my box of assorted bolts I had brought with us and amazingly I had a shouldered one that fitted! We are now up and running again after loosing 30 minutes. Got to Gledrid and rechecked everything with Simon and Callan's support. We are now in route into Wales.

There is a rubbing noise when we go round right hand corners which I think is the pad touching the disc as it stops if we apply the brakes.

Wish us luck!

The Callan mentioned in the previous post took these pics of Bruce and Andy at the Gledrid services near Oswestry.

Lets hope team 39 make it to the end!

May be an opening for a driver in the Dolomega for 2023, interested?

Steve

Thanks for the offer Steve, but I’d like to do it in my own car if possible. Put my tinkering to the test!

I ran my 2000 saloon this time running alongside the Sprints of Tom & Nathan and Mark & Jo McLean.

No issues getting fuel for most of the weekend. At one smaller garage in Scotland, we topped up 1/2 tank with E10 for a long stretch and ran it as low as possible then brimmed again with E5 at the next fuel stop.
We were getting messages on Sunday afternoon to say that fuel was harder to get closer to the finish so we topped up near Andover with enough to see us to Knebworth and them home to Coventry via Leicester.
