Apologies if this has been asked before

Thoughts on quality and fitting of Rimmer sprint exhausts ?? , only
ask as I know rover exhausts from Rimmers have had a poor reputation

Are club ones better ? ( more expensive I know )

Thanks

The Rimmers Sports system for Sprint is a pretty poor fit, "fit's where it touches" is about right! I've fitted a dozen I guess, since 2012, every one seems a little harder than the last, so I reckon their bending jig is getting worn! But if you want a Sportier exhaust, it's pretty much Hobsons choice these days, it's Rimmers or a bespoke one that will be much more expensive.

The standard replica system SEEMS a bit better, certainly didn't need as much fettling as the Sports model, but I don't have so much experience of that one (only 2 fitted) I would expect the club one to be, like Mary Poppins, practically perfect in every way. But so far, i've not been called upon to fit one, so can't say, one way or the other.

I think their bending jig was worn about 40 years ago. Mainly the section that goes over the rear axle. I've fitted quite a few of these and it takes ages to get it in the right place.

I got a "standard replica system" from Robsport. It all fitted quite nicely apart from the downpipe which needed tweeking. Had to bend it slightly tighter and tweek it to the side to line up properly with the first silencer/box. Easy enough in situ with the oxy/acetylene torch - a lot harder without!

I often need to shorten the over axle pipe slightly, sometimes at both ends, but the bit i've had most trouble with lately is the little bit of pipe between the front box and over axle pipe having insufficient bend in it. If I lay a current one against the one in the Carledo that i've had since 2012, you can SEE the difference. Rimmers are, of course, not even a little interested. But it's always the same with repro stuff like this, I EXPECT to have to fettle a bit.

My Stag came with a new Rimmers system fitted, it took me days to get the bloody thing to fit right and not rattle or knock
Not had to fit one on my Dolly yet.

Tony.

yet when you mention about the bad fit they will tell you that no one else has complained and they are made to original pattern.
Many years ago my neighbour complained about their rear shocks not fitting and got that response, I then phoned an hour later as i had bought the same part and was also told i was the first person to mention this despite speaking to the same person, the fitting issue was resolved by buying elsewhere.
Unfortunately because they sponsor the TDC you usually get told off by Admin if you mention how bad their customer service is and how bad some of their parts are.

For the avoidance of doubt, no company "sponsors" the Club. A number of companies pay to advertise in our magazine, the revenue received helps us keep our subscription at a very modest £27 (which has been frozen at that rate for many years) and enables us to provide free resources (such as this Forum and our annual rally) to benefit non-members and Club members alike.

Furthermore, we would like to remind contributors of the Forum rules, an extract from which may be found below (the full article may be found here; https://forum.triumphdolomite.co.uk/vie ... =5&t=13036).

Users' attention is particularly drawn to the content of postings made to the Forum when raising issues about experiences with suppliers of goods and services. We have in the past received a number of comments from suppliers concerning issues which are being discussed in Forum where these matters would be more properly addressed directly and in private between customer and supplier. We have also received complaints about postings which refer to person(s) who feel the postings have been inappropriate which are of a personal nature or defamatory. We will edit or delete postings if we feel these rules are being infringed or any comments or discussion which could in general bring the club into disrepute.

Please remember your club is run by a management committee all of whom are
volunteers. If your posting is openly critical of decisions taken by, or members of this committee would you please ensure you address these comments outside the forum via personal e-mail directly to the General Secretary. Any reply given should not be copied into any forum posting, by quote or otherwise.

The quality of my Stag system was fine, but having been in the motor trade all my life we always found that a 'non genuine' part rarely fits first time. So it's not just Rimmers, i am grateful that they still supply parts for our cars. When the time comes for an exhaust for my Dolly? I will use the club system. 8)

Tony.
