You might like this one. I was travelling down to Oxford yesterday and just pulled onto the A43 dual carriageway towards Silverstone. Went on in my usual exuberent style and had a quick look in the rear view mirror and noticed a dark Volvo S80. I'm fairly surveillance aware for a number of reasons so I thought the best thing to do was accelerate briefly up to a speed of say 90 elephants and see if it matched my speed. It did, so I then slowed down to 60 elephants. Again, it slowed down to 60 and pulled in behind another car for cover. So I slowed to 55 elephants. His cover car overtook me and he reluctantly did so. I had a good look at him as he went past (Single occupant and in what looked like plain clothes). I then accelerated and proceeded to follow him for a few miles at 65 elephants. Small aereal to the left of the radio aerial and the 'police stop' LED thingy on the parcel shelf. Big TV screen recording in the middle of the dash.

We then come to a roundabout and he indicates right as if to go off the A43, I'm going straight on. I then rapidly accelerate away because I'm sure he is going to try circumnavigate the roundabout and come after me. Its coned to a single carriage way and I can see that he would have been baulked by a lorry. I then come off on the next slip road and park up on the bridge over the carriageway.

Sure enough behind the lorry is a Volvo S80 itching to try and go past, he looks up and sees me parked up on the bridge and he's missed the slip road. I give him a big friendly wave and then take the scenic route through Silverstone Village. He must have been so p155 off! Its not often I get one over on the old bill!

excellent work  got only once the opportunity when I spotted them behind me on an German motorway with a limit of 120km/h and I was doing 180km/h. Unfortunitly for them I was driving a car with 627hp on the rear wheels and black sun blocking rear windows at that time and there was not much traffic so I could make their picture in my mirror very very small when my meter showed approx. 200mph and took an exit to escape afterwards. Nethertheless I was a little bit nervous if they will come along at my home as they should have the registration but nothing happened......

I've seen three different Volvos on that stretch of the M40 recently, along with a 56 plated vauhall in silver. Around here they still have an old shape M3!!! Bait or what! Isn't it called entrapment?

A year or so ago I was barrelling down the M1 in the Lotus and became aware of lights gaining on me fast. Suspected correctly and slowed to allow a marked car catch me. I turned off onto the A42 at whic point he passed me with passenger scowing as they did so. He then proceeded to pull in at nearly every lay-by and wait, usually by reversing infront of parked lorries, waiting for me to open up...but I didn't! I never let his lights get sufficiently far ahead for me not to see what he was up to!

I reckon I'd been close to the distance they have to follow before pulling when I spotted him and he was narked at me 'getting away'!

No, I just work for an US company and in the nineties I got some money out of stock options to spend in such crazy cars. The good thing in Germany is that if they did not catch you directly and have no clear picture of the driver the maximum they can do is to force the owner of the car to make notes about who drives the car when if he does not recognize who has driven the car on that day  So it was just a logic thought that they can not have a clear face on the tape due to the black windows in the back and if they will not be able to follow they do not know who to blame as I will definitly forget a minute later who has been driven the car. Unfortunitly I had a colleague on the passenger seat and he did not talk to me for several months after he turned white when we managed our way with 200mph+ through the traffic....

That's an excellent story! I'm sure he secretly tells people all the time about how he was in a car that out run the police at 200mph!

A colleague of mine has a S80, and I can reliably inform you that all of those volvos in standard form have their aerials for satnav and radio embedded in the windows.

So if you see one with an aerial on the roof - it's plod.

:D
