Post subject: A quick weekend resto

Brief backgroound to this one:

Louloubelle is a 1966 Daf 32 Comfort (same as tilly but more basic trim) which the current owner has had for about 2 years. He's a full-time carer for his dad and simply hasn't had time to do anything on it.

So he was over the moon about a month ago when the car was picked by a TV company for on-film restoration for a forthcoming series. They collected the car about 2 weeks ago and spent a day filming for back-story. Then, a few days later, they called to say they'd had budget cuts and wouldn't be doing the daf because they had to lose an episode and it had less appeal than the Jeep, Anglia, Sierra and Beetle that were also lined up.

To say he was gutted is an understatement! Anyway, it just happened that the annual Essex Dafs long weekend get-together was over the bank holiday just gone, so we arranged for the TV guys to deliver it back there instead of to his home in Sussex.

This is what happened next...

Love the vid Joe.

Honoured to have played a teensy part of it. Mega-kudos to all concerned.

So folks, keep your eyes peeled for Classic Car SOS which will feature a Moggie Minor (zzzzzzzz), a Beetle (zzzzzzzzzzzz) and some other cars.

However, no Daf. Their loss.

So why weren't you there????? As it says on the ED forum, you don't need a Daf to be an Essex Daffer (in fact, you don't even need to be in Essex - we had a 320 mile drive to get there :P )

Seriously, if you're that close then get over to http://essexdafs.proboards.com and say hi!

Be warned, Dafs are like Nick O teen in the old anti-smkoking adverts - "One drive and they'll soon be in my grasp!"

Hi Paul

That's fantastic news. I saw my first DAF on the road on Monday, while I was driving out of Colchester, it was Blue and only caught the 3 letters which were LUW.

That would have been Louloubelle either going to or returning from her first test, which she failed thanks to track rod ends that went from Ok to fail in maybe 15 - 20 miles over a couple of weeks. That's what happens when joints have been standing unused for an extended period and then start moving again after the grease dries out :(

Really makes you wonder about the "hardly does any miles so shouldn't need MOTs" argument!
