Hello everyone I've just registered.

My name's Ryan, I'm from bonny Scotland and I've recently become interested in classics.

I am currently looking for a Dolomite, but they seem to be like hen's teeth up here. I'm keeping my eye on eBay, PistonHeads and Autotrader for the right one to come up, but as of yet I live in hope.

Hopefully I will get to know you all in my pursuit of this Dolly.

Hello Ryan,
Well done on joining the forum, you're in the right place to obtain advice, support and comradeship, here's hoping you'll find the right car shortly.

Don't necessarily limit your search to Scotland though; Dolomites are fine long-distance cars and many of us have bought ours from a bit further afield than is perhaps considered normal! There's nothing to beat the sensation of travelling 300+ miles in a car we've only just met. :D

Where about do you stay?
There are several forum users in Scotland.

Good luck with your search for a car.

Hello everyone, thanks for the replies.

I'm in Fife in Scotland, where it seems there is a defecit of Dolomites.

I am willing to go say 200 miles for a Dolomite. I would have to get my father to give me a lift down or get the train down to buy any potential Dolly due to my insurance having lapsed and I'm not shelling out a grand for insurance only to go and cancel it shortly after. I do miss driving though. If I have not found any possible purchases by saturday I will insure my Corsa and keep my eyes peeled :eyes4u:.

Hi Alexis,

I'm in Edinburgh, and there are others in East Lothian, a couple in Glasgow, Dumfries, one in Aberdeen....so a few. :)

Hi Ryan and welcome. I am sure you'll find one to your liking. Any particular preferences? Price range?

All the best.

Ken

It's good to know there are other owners close-ish. Do we have any Scottish meets or specific clubs?

I am looking for a dolomite with twin headlights as I just love the look. Ideally a 1500 or 1850 as the 1300 sounds underpowered, and the sprint's insurance would probably turn me to bankruptcy :x. Under £2000 is my price range.
I'm starting to think more about Triumphs in general for better availability. There's just something about Triumph being an old British manufacturer which makes me want one.

Nothing underpowered about the 1300s. Plus they are very reliable and are very rev-happy.

Living in Fife you have some nice roads...

You need an 1850 with overdrive. There are a few in the NE of england...a really nice one can be had for about 1500..

If you're going for an 1850 ensure it has overdrive!

Ryan,
Don't let distance put you off a car. It is worth travelling to get a good car. I bought my Toledo last year from the other side of Bristol. It was a 400 mile drive home, but it only cost me £37 to fly down there and just over a tank full of petrol to drive it back up.
Good luck with the search. Sadly, there don't seem to be any regular Triumph meetings in SE Scotland. Some of us are getting together for the Selkirk Rally on 19th September. It may be useful for you to come along and see the cars.
