The theory behind Waxstats is as the engine gets hotter it weakens the mixture, was a fashionable thing to do in the 70's to reduce emmissions. problem comes when the wax goo gets tired and when parked sometimes heat from the engine bay gets into the waxstats weakening the mixture making them difficult to start and/or run like a pig. Burlen fuel systems will sell you jets that look like waxstats but don't cotain the wax pellet or you can remove the waxstat pellet and replace with 1p pieces. This costs 4p with 2 carbs and works very well once adjusted .
In my opinion they belong in the bin along with butterflies with poppet valves in them, solder them up or replace with solid ones easily available.
