On the replacement engine I have just got there are two treaded holes on the head about in the middle on the side the exhaust manifold is bolted.

Is my suspision correct in thinking it is for the lifting eye???

Well they're not for lifting eyes since one of those goes on the inlet side, on a bracket that goes under the heads of the bolts holding the rearmost pair of inlet manifold branches on and the other goes at the front, just inboard of the alternator.

Sorry, you didn't ask what they weren't for did you....

I suppose you could make some kind of griddle to attach to the holes though, for frying food on the engine, by the heat rising from the exhaust manifold?

Glenn, why are those little covers fitted to the nuts on the head studs? I've seen them on Saab engines but not until now on one of ours.

Oh, and I've found out what the threaded bosses are for:

They support the engine end of the head steady bracket on a Saab 99.

Nah, Crunchy Nut Cornflakes and the Stylophone for me every time.

Makes you wonder though; why did Saab consider it necessary to have those head steadies on either side when Triumph managed nicely without? :-k

I do like the powder blue camshaft cover though......
