So will the engine turn over?

The engine will not turn over. The side covered in oil is the side with the carbs.

If it won't turn over, the oil light came on just before it stopped and there's very little oil in the engine now then it will be seized. If there is oil in the engine then I suspect the pump failed, is there oil left?
Probably time to source a new engine I'm afraid, or at least try and rebuild it.

Hi guys
Seems like all trouble was caused by a faulty seal and wasn't helped by a small oil leak and poorly maintained oil level. Engine is turning over and have had it up to temperature with no problems. Thanks very much for all of your replies.

That's good news Art. Glad it's all sorted.

I was going to borrow you an engine if you was stuck in Suffolk with it. If needed.

All the best

Darren

What was the reason for the engine not turning over?

New oil seems to have stopped the small leak from a presumably hardened seal. Perhaps the engine got a bit hot and seized temporarily?
