Why is white a con ?

Well I don't like white cars, they show every speck of rust and no matter how much you wax them, they never look shiny!

I know many other people who agree with me and have seen innumerable white cars resprayed in different colours (at least the white makes a good "primer")

Just out of interest, the early Mimosa Sprint VA83 is for sale on Ebay ATM for £5k. Not Quite as tidy or original as this white one, but manual o/d, MOT'd and probably about the 6th or 7th oldest known surviving Sprint. Also in west London and worth a look I reckon!

Well I bought the Sprint, the biggest surprise is how sweet the auto is to drive so will certainly be staying that way, surprisingly great pull from the engine/auto combination.

The history file with this Sprint is nothing short of monstrous, even notes he was leaving for the garage were returned and added to the file, everything you could imagine and a lot more in the history files, 4 off them - this owner was meticulous.

He bought it when he was 70 and died at 87 and it remained in the family until now stored in a dry garage, they MOT'd it once after his passing which was 2004 from what I make out, then left it until last year before MOTing it again. It had £4,500 spent on it 11 months ago to get an MOT (all mechanical) and make sure she was running well.

It's done just over 1000 miles since 1997 if memory serves me right, doing only mileage to get to and from the garage for an MOT in the old man's latter years, its got 52k genuine miles on it now.

She's a white Sprint and from what I read in the files she had the passenger door replaced in 1987 with a new one at a cost of £188, timing chain done at just under 51k miles which was way back in 2001 I think.

She was supplied by Lavenderhill Garage who are still on the go today. Still got sticker in back window and dealer plates.

That sounds amazing, well done. I bet Lavenderhill Garage would love to get a few photo's with the car.

Sounds good, would love to see some pictures.

Can you give us all an idea of what you paid for it, it would really help us answer the next person like you who asks 'What's it worth'

Without actually saying how much I paid for the Sprint what I will say is, it had a club valuation on it and I paid the valuation amount, I wasn't aware the seller had it valued that's why I had asked the initial question. The valuation also highlighted work needing doing, which I have to say was very helpful.

It was Club Triumph rather than the TDC that valued it as he was a member like his godfather before him.

BTW I think white is a stunning colour in a Sprint.

Here's a photo, hope it comes through.

Without in any way diminishing your reasons not to say (I paid £5.5k for my Sprint), this is why when people ask how much is a car worth, the response is often a seemingly infuriating 'Well how much are you willing to pay?'

Reading your posts it seems like a lovely example, I hope you got many miles of joy from it! :)

Yes I agree - that's why I asked, as people who have bought one can give advise without actually disclosing how much they actually paid for theirs- but based on their own experience they can give good advise.

I don't think I got a bargain, as it was valued, but what I did get is what I believe to be a great genuine car needing minimum work, and in my favourite colour.

They are exceptional cars and totally underrated by a lot of folk- I've had Ford RSs all my life and this a great car and fun.

It's great that you're so pleased with it. There seems to be quite a classic scene on Lewis, I take it you know Norman?

Yes, there's a very big classic scene here, a lot of classics and some very good ones - do you mean "Tormod" as he's known here, Gaelic for Norman - he has a white Spitfire and sold his Dolomite recently, if so yes I know him.

Have you been to Lewis.

Not yet, it's on my bucket list - I've never been to any of the Hebrides, shocking I know.
