As some of you may know I'm the Good Neighbour for West Yorkshire. At NDD, Steve W was looking for somebody to run the area group. I've expressed an interest and I've PMd Andy P. to let him know my intentions. He's since given me the thumbs-up so I can get it in the next edition of DM.

My membership ran out earlier on this year but I promise I will renew before the month is out (when I get paid next). I'm hoping to get the local area meetings started again. There were a few at NDD who were interested in a local area meeting. I'd like some ideas on what would be the best day of the week, a suitable venue (ideally, centrally located), frequency of meetings and ideas for runs out. I'm open to joining forces with other clubs (I attend the West Yorkshire TSSC meeting) with meetings and/or shows. Can the local members please get in touch with ideas and suggestions? You can either post a reply on this thread, send me a PM or give me a call (phone numbers are in the Good Neighbours section of DM on page 23 of Issue 155 which is the current edition). Bob, if you're reading this, have you got the contact details of the gentleman with the carmine Sprint from Pudsey? He seemed interested in coming to more meetings and events.

I'm now officially a Club member again so full steam ahead. I'll contact Steve W. to see if I can get a few words in the next DM.

Dave you should have got my pm by now with Kens no.

I spoke to a couple of people at NDD and they and myself thought that weekend meets would be better than evenings and better attended. Not including you three of us expressed interest, and I assume Steve would be so I hope they can get up and running.

Yes, I got Ken's number (I've not got hold of him yet. Been busy with repairing the Astra).

I'm more than happy to hold meetings at the weekend if that would suit more people. I'm waiting for Andy P. to get me an up-to-date list of local club members then I can get I touch with everyone and hopefully get some feedback. My initial thoughts are to hold a regular (monthly or bi-monthly) meeting at the same venue every time. The venue would be centrally located and easily accessible. I'm open to any ideas and several heads are always better than one.

Dave how is it progressing with getting interest in Yorkshire meetings. If you can't get a large number interested how about just the few of us getting together

Sorry for taking so long to reply.

Andy P. has kindly provided me with a list of local members and their phone numbers. I've got the next couple of weeks off work so I'm hoping to get in touch with as many as I can to gauge the interest. There's a few names I know and "clerverusername" is in the list but not knowing his real name I don't know who he is. I'm going on holiday tomorrow (nothing exotic, just a few days' camping in deepest Cambridgeshire!) so I'll start ringing round when I get back. The first thing I'd like to do is to start regular meetings so I need to work out a time and place that suits as many as possible. I'm also open to the idea of holding joint meetings with another club.

Bob, I'd like to know what your thoughts are. If you don't want to say in public you can PM me or my phone number is in DM (I'm the local Good Neighbour).

The announcement has now been made in DM. I've texted those whose mobile numbers I have. I'll call those who have only got a landline number and have a quick chat. I'm, in regular contact with you Bob so I haven't sent the text to you. If there's anybody who isn't a club member then you're more than welcome to participate and offer your input. I'm considering running a joint meeting with other Triumph clubs. I'm well known in the local TSSC area so getting on board with them will be easy. The only other one I know of is the local TR Register Wharfedale Group.

Hi Dave
Didn't reply to last post as you were away. Must admit I've not put much thought into a venue as you wanted somewhere central and until you have an idea where people are travelling from its not easy to come up with ideas. Have you thought any more about contacting members who we know live local to Leeds Bradford Halifax and try to arrange a meet to get things started. There's you me ken in Pudsey Steve and the guy from rodley with the fwd 1500 can't remember his name from ndd who are all in that area.
Met a lady at Bradford's classics show last week lives in Bradford and uses a 1500 as a daily driver. Didn't get her name but she was a past member of the club so if she is still on record she may be worth contacting. Wasn't going to go to it do to commitments but in the end was asked if I would and it was a great 2 days. I had the only dolomite there and had a lot of interest in it capped off by a live radio interview. Made my day that.

Gavin was the guy with the 1500fwd at NDD. I've not had a response to any of my texts and I've tried both landline numbers but there was no answer. I'll keep on trying. I want to get as much input as possible so I can have something workable for as many people as possible. I'd really like to know who the lady with the 1500 was. There was a couple (Kath & Roger) who had a Sapphire 1500TC (TNO 772N) who used to be TDC members and attended the meetings in Horsforth regularly. Was it her by any chance? I've got some old DMs and 1300 Register newsletters so I might have a look through them. I remember some of them listing names and registration numbers which might give me a clue.

That could be them her husband was at the show on Sunday with a Capri but I didn't get chance to speak to him. I'm sure she said her car was a 75 so reg looks right but she said it was rwd and that didn't tally to me for the year but I may have miss heard her. I hope you can get some interest in the meetings.
Come on guys an gells if your reading this and are interested get in touch with Dave.

Bob, it is definitely Kath & Roger. The 1500TC is RWD (the change from FWD to RWD occurred in 1973 and the engine gained 2 carbs hence the TC designation) and they do have a Capri. It would be nice to get them coming to the meetings. Kath's accent is unmistakable being originally from Canada.

I've since had a chat with a few members with some positive feedback and the general consensus is that a weekend meeting would be better than during the week. I'm not much in favour of a joint meeting with the TSSC as we'd get lost among the Heralds/Vitesses/Spitfires/GT6s and the car park isn't big enough. We could attend shows with the TSSC and in 2007 I was at Harewood on a joint CT/TSSC stand. The idea of moving the meeting round different venues is still a possibility but somewhere centrally located would be convenient. I have one place in mind which I used when I was the local AO for Club Triumph but I'm open to other ideas.

After doing my straw poll, some members find weekends more convenient, some can do any day and one said Tuesday is definitely out (which rules out a joint meeting with either the TSSC or TR Register as they both hold their meetings on the 2nd Tuesday of every month) so I'm going to have Sunday lunchtime as the day and it will be the first Sunday of the month. I'll set the date of the first meeting for October. This gives me time to finalize the venue and to let everyone know when and where the meetings will take place.

I've now got two possible venues. There's the Old Brickworks in Drighlington which I used when I was the AO for Club Triumph which is centrally located, close to J27 of the M62 and does food (I think !) There's also a Premier Inn round the back. The other place I'm considering is The Farmers on Bradford Road (A647) between Thornbury and Pudsey which is a bit easier to get to than the Old Brickworks for some of the members. Having set my dates, I'll have to visit or call the venues to see how busy they are on the intended day and to see if the landlord/licensee/manager is OK with us holding the meeting.

The show season is pretty much over for this year. I might go to the Restoration Show and there may be the odd local show. We can tag along with the local TSSC lot at shows and next year's NDD may be something different. There was talk of the North East area helping to organize it.

To add my 2p's worth and pass on my wisdom of arranging meets, it is unpractical to bow to every persons wishes. there will always be one person who can't/ won't do a certain day or certain location and some who will moan that 7pm is too late or too early.
Your best bet is to find a location that is easy to find, has ample parking, does good food and has an area for kids and possibly dog friendly (there will be one person who doesn't like kids or dogs so won't go if they are there) then set the date and time and give plenty of notice, if someone wants really go than they will change their plans to suit.
If need be you can move the venue around each month if you have a large area as you will always get the one who says driving 10 miles is too far.

In short there will always be at least one person that can't do that date/ time/ location. Why rule out a joint meeting just because of one person and as you have said always check with the pub to make sure karaoke/ quizzes / pool matches etc are not on that night and that they can cater for a large group?

I can't always make our meets due to my shifts so just attend the days I'm able to and that is no ones fault but mine.

HTH.

I know you can't "please all the people all the time" so all I can do is make it available for as many as is possible. Nobody else has suggested a venue and some have just said "let me know when and where and I'll try to make it". I know food will be a factor so I'll be checking out the venues before committting myself.

Thanks for your input.

hi Dave
Good to see things progressing. I would agree with the last comments regarding not being able to do all things for all. I may not be able to do First meet in Oct as I may be at my daughters in Cornwall.

I did have a cople of ideas for venues. One is the Malt Shovel in Harden but this is a little out and steepish hills for some to get to it but that was part of its appeal. Second is the Hitching Post in Greengates Bradford. Has all facilities large car park very good buffet at good prices and outside kiddies area when weather good. One draw back can get very busy but it is large and has rooms. Down side for me only a mile from home.

Have you been to the Farmers recently Ive not been for years told it had closed.
