Looking pretty smokey there but you made him work for it. Was it a modern twin cam red top engine he was running then?

Actually, he caught me napping, coming up behind some slower cars, but I stayed with him for the rest of the session. I don't know if it was a modern red top or not (what's the difference?). Specked you got that from the CT forum.
This was the reason for it smoking so much. I'm not sure if I did any more sessions after that one but I still had a 40+ mile journey back home & it seemed fine.

Ah yes, seen the CT thread now. Twin cam 16v red top I think means it must be a C20XE series which at 18 years old maximum feels modern to me. Sprint engine is what, 25 years old minimum. Bloody impressive that you kept him at bay for so long and with a rather sick engine too. I suppose Asconas could be massively heavy?

Nice video, what circuit is it?
Slichtly biger valves is an option, we use BMW (bike) valves 6mm pin and very light.
looking at this piston it could be detonation, but hard to tell without seeing the crown, it could also be just an tired piston what was giving in.
I think a lot of luck, it could chatter total also.

Hans, yes, I think I was quite lucky as it didn't even score the cylinder. When I took the piston out the bits fell off. I'll take a photo of the crown of the piston & post it on here as I don't know what caused it.
Yes it was Quarry Corner at Castle Combe in Wiltshire.
