I really can't see road pricing working. Afterall if the government can't keep tracks on 400 peadophiles on the loose how can they keep track of the 30million or so cars on the roads.
It's very clever though. They are trying to project forward when cars use less fuel or hydrogen etc so fuel duty will reduce and hence they need to raise money to waste on more pointless projects. The only way I can see this working is by saying that all new cars from date X will be fitted with a box I don't fancy some greasy oik splicing my wiring loom thank you very much. I'm sure they have thought of this as well but surely you could just disconnect it? No doubt they will line the streets with cameras and Talivans to catch those people who do.

dont think it will be as easy as a simple disconect they have stoped them using the obd111 system which can be linked to satalite and your local plod can tell if youv'e disconected any part of the emmisions system with a little hand held device !! and it's built into you pcm /ecu or whatever you wish to call it so cant be got at unless your a bit of a wizz on that bit of equipment this system caused a bit of controversy in the usa and was considered to be a bit too much of bb watching .....so wasn't alowed to have that part working

One more reason..
for making sure that gordon and co are slung out at the next opportunity...
I just will not have one of these fitted...
The best way to tax cars is fuel duty. Its efficient, easy to administer and easy to collect. Traffic is fundamentally self limiting. If the roads are all clooged up we find other ways to get there, or maybe find ways to not actually need to go...
Lets face it how many journeys are really necessary? Car share schemes are a good idea so multi occupant car lanes would be a good idea...like in America. We all are suppsoed to have broad band so why not work form home 1 or 2 days a week. Get your shoppping on line and delivered out of hours.
Okay its time to be controversial now. Get your wife to be a stay at home mum. Then she can walk your kids to school, give them some quality time when they get home instead of being latch key kids who just get home, pig out on junk food and watch mindless crap on the box. The marginal extra income she now spends on the 2nd car, flash cloths, make up and "lunch" will then miraculously not be needed and the myth that you need 2 incomes will be exploded. All school run cars would then disappear and kids may even get some exercise and not clog up the NHS in later life with obesity related diseases...also traffic congestion would disappear overnight. No global warming either cos the foreign holiday that is a must have compensation for the "working" wife would be replaced by a weeks camping in the Lakes or New forest and airport expansion and noise and pollution would decline...as would consequent environmental damage..
Yes you heard it hear first.
Stop women working...you know it makes sense. Tessa Jowell would be a great place to start wouldnt she? And if Maggie had just been a stay at home mum we might even still have a car industry...

Thats not new Jonners, my wife has been looking after our 2 kids at home now for 5 years. It certainly makes you more aware of your spending and how wasteful we are as a society in general. It is possible to be a one income family if you are prepared to forgoe all the little extras like cable TV, cell phones, ipods etc.
Cheers
