....The shell is therefore ready to go as far as we're concerned.

That's a phenomenal work rate, even allowing for the fact that this one started with a shell that didn't fall apart once stripped of its paint.
I'll pop back to this thread in a Week's time to see the finished car then?

Finished the bonnet & boot lid. Great, now to get on with the nuts & bolts.

I've also drilled the necessary holes in the new O/S headlight retaining panel I got from Fitchetts, 10 in all.

Loosened the subframe mounting bolts (with my new 2 foot breaker bar), well 3 of them, the other one sheared off...OUCH!.

Strengthened the caster frame that will bolt into the subframe holes once I've removed it.

So hopefully I'm looking to get the body shifted to the spray shop by next Saturday.

At last it was time to drop the subframe out ready for THJ to go to the spray shop...













...and then it was time to say farewell to THJ until the end of March. Well we will be popping in from time to time to see how it's doing.




Now the fun begins. I started by stripping the subframe down...




...and then stripped the front hub assemblies.






Tomorrow I will start cleaning the components & painting them.

Well, you know what I mean. I know it's only been a couple of weeks but it's stopped me from getting on with the rest of it 'cause I haven't got the room with the shell in the way.

...that castor gadget looks handy. Good idea.

I saw an Escort on something similar when I was getting BFR resprayed & thought that would save a lot of time if I was able to carry on stripping the subframe whilst the shell was being sprayed.

What next; how to fit trim with a set of nail clippers and adjust the tracking with a set of Salter scales?

We went up to Bristol yesterday to pick up a set of brake calipers from Chris (2Toledos). Thanks very much Chris for the donation, they've been stripped, rebuilt & painted.




I couldn't wait to get stuck into the engine strip & rebuild so whilst most of the suspension/brake parts were drying I got started...


Block got a bit covered in dust from stripping the shell...




Started removing the water pump and the "bolt loosened" scenario happened. So got a big washer & bolted that to the pump...




...then with a couple of hefty spanners, levered the pump out. The brass cage stayed put so that's the final part of removal which I'll do in the week.




Whipped the head off. The head gasket looked fairly new.




It didn't take much to clean the piston crowns to reveal fairly new-looking pistons...

If anyone is doing someinthing like this up my way, then please give me a shout, I'd love to get my hands dirty on work like this.

Stripped the rest of the engine tonight. The pistons do indeed look newish.




I was lucky with the brass cage, took me about 30 secs to remove it.
