LSD preload

#1 Post by Sprint36 »

Anyone know what the preload torque should be for a Sprint LSD set up with alternating internal and external plates?

Have you tried Ben's website?

I'm sure Mark & Philip will know also.

Perhaps we should have a survey? Everyone with an LSD pop out to the garage and see how much torque it takes to turn one wheel (with the brake drum off) with the other one locked.

So far I've got the following:

16 lb.ft with the plates in pairs
22 lb.ft with alternating plates
30 lb.ft with alternating plates and a shim

Do I need new plates?

Original build (Factory) specs for a Power Lok LSD is 90ftlb torque.

If you run very sticky tyres, or have heaps of BHP, it is worth raising this a bit to say around 110-120ftlb.

  Really? That's high. That must be horrendous on slow tight corners.

I found some info for Alfa (ZF) diffs saying around 43 for alternating plates and 21 for paired plates, dry. Reduced to around half that with oil.

Depends whether you are using it for road or circuit.
